Mods and Consoles - Again

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 3:20 pm

Okay, you have heard this all before, but a tidbit from the Dawnguard Thread may interest you (Assuming it's true)

According to Todd Howard mods may be soon coming to consoles if "something clear's up" He also said "In a perfect world that would all be possible, but it's something that hasn't worked out yet."

So mods may be coming to consoles either if they can sort out this one thing, but the meaning of that is kinda vauge. But there is slightly more hopes for us Xbox and PS3 Owners then there was, and it at least shows that the guys at Bethesda are still trying.

How the eff would they moderate all the mods and how the hell would consoles users be able to fix their games if they got a bad mod conflict? Sure you can make sure all the mods available to consoles are stable and relatively big free but you cannot predict ALL the mod conflicts. Most Console users will not understand the risks of modding. Not because of stupidity but unfamiliarity. Microsoft and Sony can do whatever they want. If they can solve that issue I will be impressed.

It seems like we get one of these every time it goes off the first page.
We know what Todd said.
It probably won't happen on these systems but maybe on the next ones. But that is doubtful.

I wonder, (assuming Todd was taken literally) would that mean console users get some sort of modding interface, or would they just download pc-made mods?

Same way pc moderates them apps and a workshop type of app.

That's from a forum poster and it's misleading. When the interviewer asked if Todd was active for it Todd replied that they're not really active about it, it's just something he would like to be able to bring to the consoles. It's from the GameTrailers Interview about Dawnguard. As much as I'd love mods on consoles (play on 360) this is just getting blown out of proportion.

Until Sony/MS have open platforms... It is unlikely, but it's more of a "when" will it happen than "if" it will happen. Everything else people have mentioned, while it may be of some issue to work through isn't the main thing standing in the way of mods on console.

Just stop and think for a second as to the reasons why mods are not already on consoles and those reasons will probably be the same in 5 years time as well.

There are alot of reasons as to why they aren't and probably won't be for a long time

Its not that impossible honestly. I bet there is a good chance it will come to next gen consoles, then we wouldnt have to debate which platform would be better.

I really wish people like Todd would refrain from saying such things, he knows exactly what he is doing when he stirs it up again. Just gives everyone a source to cite for their argument when in actual fact, it ain't going to happen. He just stirs the pot.
