more detailed skyrim vs oblivion thread

character creation - I have no opinion on this, Skyrims CC is rigid and static, while Oblivion's is just lol.

role play ability - subjective, I'd go so far as to say you avoid even summarizing this, its really a non issue at large

combat system - I don't call speed tweaks, animation refinement and a bash option "significant" advancement, just as you could swing spam in Arena to Oblivion you still do the same in Skyrim with little consequence, theres nothing you can't kill by hacking away at it long enough and drowning yourself in potions

magic system- I disagree, while the Fire ball and Bigger fire ball syndrom did not subside, at least Skyrim gives more casting types however arbitrary I feel they are (because of no spell making) I call a Draw imo

the map - I disagree, there is a reason though, Skyrim is torn asunder by civil war so a central hub capital is really unlikely to exist, a poor "excuse" yes I agree, but its better than the contrived symmetry of Oblivions Map..imo

exploration - I agree, Draw even though Skyrims Locals are FAR MORE interesting to me

cities and towns - well with skyrim asunder from a Civil war it makes sense that there are no capital hubs, I give this to Skyrim..Oblvions cities were puissant to me in all forms and were much more Copy pasta than Skyrim, sorry. I disagree

enemies - I get you're point, but Oblivion reaks of copy pasta mythological creatures of -our- time, I argue to say that there was next to no creativity with the general creatures in Oblivion save for the land dreugh...I'd give this a Draw with a lean towards Skyrim...Almost...

quest lines - I agree, Draw

long term playability - this is a Draw, imo what sauce are you smoking? both games lacked choice and CNC, I mean there is a mod by that very name for Oblivion

items - Disagree, yeah Oblivion had more slots, but it started the trend, Skyrims selection may be lesser, and slots even less so, but they look better and don't look like Lotr ripoffs no offense to the art designer of the time.

For me the weakest part in Oblivion was that the dungeons were repetitive and the world wasn't fully hand crafted.

I do miss how you could ask guards for directions and where people were.

Good detailed anolysis OP.

I tend to agree with all the points, with the possible exception of cities/towns. I like the way they are implemented in Skyrim. Maybe it's just the graphics but I do like the Skyrim towns.

Another point for Skyrim not mentioned is the "liveliness" of the world. More things seem to be going on around you in Skyrim. And the random quests and events, etc.

I prefer Oblivion, but Skyrim is very close in my opinion. Still I think it really all comes down to personal preference. Both are great games!

And I completely disagree with this. In Oblivion the dungeons were very varied and well done.
I agree with this, Though I like Skyrim more. However the dungeons in SKyrim in my opinion were WAY better, they all seemed hand-crafted, though I did love Oblivions ones also.

Skyrim and Morrowind are both better games than Oblivion in almost all regards, the magic system being the exception.

I think I'm the only one who hated Morrowind... -Runs for cover-

never played oblivion but it looks like garbage

yah skyrim and morrowind are way better, but its not a horrible game by any means, its pretty good actually but skyrim and MW are just wayyyyyyyyyyyy better, MW still has the best town/city/quest/story/npcs and skyrim has the best looking landscapes, combat, armor, magic and over all mechanics, its just lacking in complex quests and story

I stopped reading after the first point. It's titled character creation and he talks about graphics and aesthetics.
