more water than we think? : Fallout: New Vegas

i set fallout new Vegas as my wallpaper and noticed that on one of the images there is a large body of water new Vegas and the PC is looking over it towards the city, I'm sorry as i can't find the screen shot but someone out there must know what I'm talking about please post it so i was wondering could there be more water than we thought or is it just something pretty we can look at?

There are ponds and creeks around the desert, as well as the obvious Colorado River and giant reservoir behind Hoover Dam.

I'm thinking the West Coast has recovered an developed a helluva lot more then the East Coast just because of the amount of nukes and devastation that were directly aimed at the East Coast, My assumption is going to be that water and everything else will probably be considerably less radiated just for the fact that not nearly as much devastation effected the West Coast. :tops:

Not sure yet, but I imagine it would be irradiated, just to less of an extent that it was in Fallout 3 since Vegas didn't get hit so bad (or at all?). But on a Van Buren map of Hoover Dam, there were pictures of mutated sea monsters lurking in the dam, so I suppose it has to be full of radiation.

Van Buren is NOT New Vegas. I'm guessing Hoover's water will be pure, but the rest is fairly radiated.

But Van Buren is made by the same developers as New Vegas, so in a way it's like New Vegas is giving them the chance to make that forgotten game. And by that I don't mean that the games are identical, just that many ideas from Buren will (or should) make their way to New Vegas.

My guess is that it will be irradiated, but we won't know until we play the game.

But yes, it's not like the area around Las Vegas doesn't have any water, deserts are defined by their low annual rainfall, this does not mean there are no bodies of water in deserts. If you saw a large body of water in one screenshot, I think the chances of this being Hoover Dam are quite high.

I take in Hoover is explicitly protected and managed? I mean I do intend on stock piling as much free water as I can and putting it away in a bunker somewhere for a Non-rainy day....

If Hoover is fed from the Colorado river, why would it not be irradiated? If the water is irradiated elsewhere, it could travel down towards Hoover.. Just saying.

The Mojave isn't the driest of deserts, nor are the surrounding areas lacking water. So, bigger bodies of water than the river in F3 will be no surprise. Especially since Hoover Dam needs Lake Mead.

The Colorado drains a large area of the United States, going through Most of Colorado, part of Utah and all of Arizona. So, if those watersheds were irradiated from fallout from nuclear blasts, then the water in the reservoir will be irradiated. We know that the Vegas area was spared from bombs, so the radiation in the water may not be as high as around DC. Or, if it has accumulated over time, then it could be as bad or worse than DC.

So, it could be either way in this game.

Indeed, they're trying to integrate as much of Van Buren as possible into New Vegas.

well the mojave desert has water, its not the sahara desert, they're are creeks, rivers and lakes, maybe not as much as other areas, but its not the like some people think. there may not be grass growing all over the place, the mountains have pine trees on em and there are spots where green trees and plants grow, its not all sand and cactus.
