Morrowind Guilds?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 4:51 am

Anyone else hope somone remakes some of the guilds from Morrowind?

Personally, I really hope somone makes the Morag Tong..That would be sweet. And perhaps they can compete with the BoD and in the end have a faction war that decides Skyrims Assassins guild..

Another one, or 3, I hope somone makes are the 3 different Vampire factions...Considering there are only 2 places atm where Vampires reside...Might be cool to expand on them..

Just my thoughts

Morag Tong was Morrowind Specific, already a dying faction. With their headquarters in Vivec it can only be assumed they're long since disbanded.

Half of the guilds and houses in Morrowind were Morrowind specific, and are only suitable for Morrowind and its lore.

You are aware that Vvardenfell -hell, most of Morrowind- got nuked when The Ministry of Truth crashed into Vivec and made Red Mountain Erupt, yes?

I'm sure the Morag Tong continues to operate among the refugees.

Heh, this reminds me of a plan I had back when OB was first released to have the great houses move into Cyrodil and try to gain influence there. I have about 10 pages of quests and dialogue for House Telvanni (I enjoy playing mages, so I started with them), and planned on doing all 5 of the big houses (not just the 3 you could join in MW). Of course it has now been hundreds of years since MW, so...

Yes I know all of that, but why do they hafto be Morrowind specific? Why cant there be a lore friendly way to introduce them to Skyrim? I mean since Red Mountain exploded, whos to say some of these guilds didnt pack up and dip out, re-establishing themselves elswhere (And I dont mean the Khajiit homeland..lol) Because I mean, the Dunmer in the grey quarter even talk about how they left Morrowind and walked west until they reached Skyrim..Perhaps some of the factions did the same?

@Sabin76mt

You should think about doing that for Skyrim! I think it would be great

You'd think that's nowhere near a priority for refugee Dunmer in these times.

I'm sure modders will be able to create a more fitting company of murderers for hire, a nordic "honorable" one.

Morag Tong killed people legally, they could do that because they where allowed by Morrowinds people in power. Outside of Morrowind they can't kill legally, since no other country recognize them as a legitimate guild. So Morag Tong wouldn't make much sense.
I guess the vampire clans could return, but they're about the only faction I can think of that would work, without too much work.

Some factions are there, but not expanded very well. I'd personally love to join the East Empire Company again.

This. Both the Morag and Comonna Tongs are sure to still be around. If history has taught us one thing, it's that the seedier elements of society will always find a way. they likely would've moved to Skyrim with the other refugees. A shadow war between the Morag Tong attempting to win themselves a foothold here, and the Dark Brotherhood trying to hunt them down as usual, would be a lot of fun.

If someone is going to make a mod like that i would suggest making books with the history of the guilds because many people haven't played Morrowind, such as me :D.

The basis is already in some ingame books, but I would definitely suggest expanding upon those. It's already established that the dark brotherhood aggressively hunted down morag tong assassins when they stepped off their own turf. In order to survive, the Tong would have to establish contracts while also avoiding being wiped out by the brotherhood. Pretty much writes itself.

Yeah I guess that makes sense, but perhaps they have decided to go illegitimate because thats where the $'s at? And also the BoD is not a sanctioned Assassin guild so if the Morag Tong wanted to stay in the game, they would have to become an illegal Assassin guild in order to compete with the Brotherhood.

Doubt it. That's why they're in war with the DB in the fist place. The DB was founded on Morag Tong members wanting to kill illegally. And if they went illegal, I doubt they'd still be the Morag Tong, they'd just join the DB.

The Tong have strayed from their honorable roots before. Back during the whole Akaviri debacle. They became drunk with power and had to be taken down a few pegs. I'll have to dig it up as the details are a bit fuzzy at this point, but there's nothing to say the Tong wouldn't adapt.

Actually, if you finish the thieves guild quest one of the new recruits to the guild admits he was a Morag Tong member, but that the Morag Tong was disbanded after the eruption of red mountain.

Oh alright. :) Still, with how weak the DB is, there wouldn't be much of a underground war going would there?
Spoiler
Especially with what happens at the end of the DB questline.

My suggestion is to learn the CK after it's released and start working on this mod yourself. It sounds like a good idea, but there's a slim chance it'll be made if you're not the one working on it. I can see most, if not all, of the Morrowind guilds still being around because people like to stick with what makes them comfortable. And if they're used to how a guild operates, they'll keep it going even if their numbers are greatly reduced.

Refugees tend to bring along social structures to their new homes. The dunmer set up shrines in Skyrim, so surely they will hold on to their old allegiances. Even if somewhat akin to a nords ancestor worship. I'd be stoked to see some Morrowind influences, dont they share a border ? Do hope some talented mod magician brings some dark elf flavor to skyrim. I'm certain the Tong is still around even if greatly diminished.

Yes besides legion presence the Empire really has little to gain from a province like skyrim without exploiting its resourses. Remembering the Ebony mines in Morrowind. On that note I also miss the Imperial chapel mission that would still have its influence even without Talos.

I'd like to see some similar guilds return, preferable ones that feel like actual guilds you join instead of quest lines to be ignored once completed.

Well it had all the velocity it had before Vivec stopped it (in a very dike: "love me or rock falls" move) when it hit, and the impact itself just reduced the area around Vivec to a charred crater and started some tsunamis and seismic activity. Unfortunately, the seismic activity then triggered Red Mountain to have a small eruption that nuked most of Morrowind and covered it in ash so only the edges and south are liveable. I call it a small eruption as Red Mountain seems to be treated as a super volcano capable of sinking all of Tamriel into a nuclear winter.

I'd have to re-write almost all of the story as it was very much adapted to Cyrodiil, and the time just after MW. I had a lot more time on my hands back then too, as I was taking the train to work. I'll sift through my old papers, but I'm not promising anything ;).

I'm more than considering to learn how to use the CK this time around myself. An exodus is more than roughly 10 dunmer cooped up in a windy district. My heart missed a beat when I entered that dark elf 'bar' ;)

To be lore-accurate, you'd probably need to start from scratch, really. House Telvanni proper got annihilated on Morrowind and in the rest of the province by an army of enraged argonians, so whilst there's plenty of prospect for Telvanni refugees trying to grow new towers in the snow or what have you (and some nice Oblivion assets for it someone made) they're certainly not an established power any longer.
