Definitally morrowind to oblivion. From a programmer's point of view, its not even a matter of opinion as it is fact.

While i agree that skyrim has amazing graphics, that are waay better the oblivion, its still nothing in comparison from morrowind to oblivion.
Ive played excessive hours of all 3 games, and when i went from morrowind to oblivion when it first came out, it felt like an entire new engine - which it wasnt, but it was that much of an improvement graphically.
Whereas lots of times playing skyrim when it first came out i was always think that it felt like oblivion with better textures and some dynamic shadows (that oblivion originally was going to have, but xbox 360 wasnt good enough to run it the way they had the game programmed at the time, so they had to cut graphics big time to accommodate the 360 because the system itself was still new and not optimized to its full).

But to me, it felt like skyrim just had all the graphical things that were cut from oblivion in the first place. The weather still functions the same as it does in oblivion, the weather effects are just visual things that are centered around the player. If you walk up a mountain a certain distance, you step over an invisible threshold that changes the weather from sunny to snowy. Slowly it will fog up and snow will start coming down, but if you take 2 steps backwards and cross that same invisible line, the weather will turn back sunny again. The weather system itself isnt improved at all except that theres more weather effects (visualizations pretty much) and they tried making the transitions slower. Also, rain and snow still goes through every object like its not there, whereas a game like red dead redemption thats 2 years old has a bigger land mass and its weather doesnt go through solid objects.

Again, im not trying to criticize the graphics of skyrim, i personally love them, but im just trying to show examples as to why its not the best graphic game out there AND how its not that much of an improvement over oblivion.

Morrowind to Oblivion.... is this a serious question. Look at anything in Morrowind, then Oblivion.... HUGE difference. Morrowind the people still look semi like polygons.

Oblivion they look like people, smooth faces... sure there are some problems but the people look semi-real. Semi real trumps semi polygons.....

Skyrim, more lifelike than Oblivion. Well except Dunmer who look like the gremlins... and I don't mean the cute and cuddly Gizmo.

Vanilla, completely unmodded,... Morrowind to Oblivion. Skyrim's graphics are a big step backwards. Just not as crisp and clean as Oblivion's were. Things look muddied and burred together at times - and that's with the highest resolutions on a fairly new gaming system.

First off, just so we're clear, graphics =/= aesthetics. Morrowind to Oblivion was by far a bigger graphical leap than Oblivion to Skyrim. Aesthetically I'd say it's a little closer, but just a little, and Morrowind to Oblivion was still a bigger leap. That's not to say Skyrim isn't a good looking game, it's just that it's constrained by the same hardware Oblivion was so the leap couldn't have been as big.

Morrowind to Oblivion did have the biggest difference in graphics even though Morrowind did look very good at the time it came out i remember i really liked how the water looked back in 2002 but it looked good overall too.

Maybe a better comparison would be between Fallout 3 and Skyrim, since it came between Oblivion and Skyrim in Bethesda's oeuvre. Both games feel pretty similar to me - except Skyrim has added dynamic shadows, and has a lot more vegetation, obviously. And weather.

Really it's more about the art direction taken. You could compare Snow White and Akira and ask which has 'better' graphics; but neither does, just different. They both use the same production techniques. Oblivion went in the Snow White, fairy tale, picture book direction, Skyrim went for a more rugged earthly, harsh and hostile style, like Fallout 3. Morrowind was just weird, wondrous and slightly unsettling, like the Shivering Isles. I kind of liked the warm, homey fairy tale feel of Cyrodiil.

Morrowind to Oblivion for me, when I first saw Oblivion it was the most beautiful game I had ever seen. When Skyrim came out to be honest I was expecting better graphics, but thats what you get when you design for consoles I suppose. Hoping that if they take their time and once console makers stop milking this generation for cash they will make new consoles, you know... ones that don't run on 5 year old gear. :|

Oblivion to Skyrim was an evolutionary change. Remember that many of the graphical features in Skyrim were originally in Oblivion, like dynamic shadows. But Oblivion was rushed and those features got cut. And being a launch title for the 360 didn't help. Bethesda wasn't even sure of the final specs of the 360 throughout most of the development of Oblivion. A podcast revealed that the team was operating under the assumption that the 360 would have 256mb of RAM, and they rejoiced when they learned it'd have 512mb (!!).

Skyrim is the game Oblivion would've been if Bethesda were given adequate time, resources, and money. Just compare Oblivion's pre-release hype and the actual game we got. Really interesting stuff like 'true' Radiant AI (see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjbx6-KQoRg&feature=player_detailpage) and dynamic shadows got cut and what we got was a mere shadow of what it could've been. With Skyrim, Bethesda took their sweet time, carefully kept it under wraps for years, and slowly (and with a much more controlled approach) released info about the game. And now it's easy for them to develop a game, especially on consoles. They know the hardware pretty well by now. Skyrim's engine is much more technically advanced and optimized even though it can run on 5+ year old consoles.

Besides, Bethesda http://www.computerandvideogames.com/320184/skyrim-hard-to-say-if-its-as-big-a-leap-as-oblivion-says-bethesda/ :P
