Most annoying enemies?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:51 pm

Just a vent/rant kind of thing. Chime in if you feel it.
  • Skeevers - of course - does every CRPG have to have rats as an enemy?
  • Frost spiders - there are like, 40,000 species of spiders in the world, but in Skyrim they're all frost spiders - ugh! Plus, there's no threat from them or their venom.
  • Dragons - fast becoming the cliff racers of Skyrim - worst scenario: you're about to do something when you hear one; not wanting it to kill people, you stop what you're doing and wait for it to attack you or for a chance to attack it - first it targets a goat on a hill, then it circles for like 5 minutes, then it leaves - aaaarrrrggghhhh - hey, I love the dragon graphics and effects, but by god, there comes a point where they are simply a nuisance
  • Falmer and chaurus - not impressed! All mystique is dispelled the minute you enter one of their lairs. So many of them. So bored! And oooh: look out - beetles - with poison as ineffective as a frost spider's; plus the disgusting sound of looting their egg sacs.
  • Automatons - appropriately, often in the same dungeons as falmer... retraction: in Skyin there are 2 species of spiders: frost and automatic. It's just overkill. If the dwarves vanished, there should be little trace of them. If the snow elves are gone, ditto. But there are like 20 (conservative?) dungeons full of dwarven automatons and falmer. Ever notice how they both come out of holes in the walls?
Love the game. Maybe I've just been playing too long...

Spriggans. Their bee(?) attack freaks me out, and fact that you basically have to kill each one twice (unless you one-shot it) is bothersome.

Dragons spawning when you fast travel... Uugh.
Don't get me wrong I hate essential tags on NPC's.. when RPing I have/would have a roll in their death...
Fast traveling and suddenly lose 4 possible quest givers because an elder dragon attacked.. yeeechh

Normal enemies I dislike: Whispmothers.. The worst enemy by far if your chosen race does not have any frost resistance. .. plus they are spawning these freaking doubles..
(Labyrinthian facing around 30-40 (a stealthy wizard archer) doubles (though kudoos) without a large drop in FPS)

Dragons, for sure.

Well, games always have to have low-level enemies for us so the skeevers fit that bill.

Don't forget about Giant Frostbite Spiders. Spider venom was never a problem for me, but I had to be careful with the Chaurus venom until I got to like LVL 50.

I don't think the Falmer are that boring. I suspect they have full cities or dens that we can't access because I've never seen the 'other ends' of those creepy holes from which the Falmer emerge.

If the automatons are magically powered then they could function for centuries or eons if the half-life of the soul gems are like 50K years.

Random assassins from db. They come at you in the middle of the day. Very bad attempts to kill you. They should come at you when your sleeping and you have to do a button combo or something

I am most annoyed by bears, wolves and sabre cats. Seriously, why would natural creatures be so consistently and stupidly aggressive. They hang out on roads and show no caution or discretion whatsoever. I have to shout myself hoarse with Kyne's Peace just to get from one town to the next. Wouldn't it be more normal for them to run a mile if they saw lightning and fire shooting at them (I have no control over the uber Marcurio and his hot hands.)?

Yeah, nowadays bears, wolves, and big cats will pretty much avoid humans...especially wolves. I would assume that even back in Skyrim times those three would know to avoid humans.

:D That NPC always makes me think of Star Trek: TNG, except she needs to be a 'he'.

Humanoids who make ridiculous boasts or insults right before they die are kinda annoying too. Nothing makes you feel uber like one-shotting a moron... :shakehead:

Dragons in my game...on my 58th level toon there are only 2 chlidren and a chicken left outside in Riverwood out of the original named people! Even the dog has vanished...all I get are the generic guards.

Just how tough is that chicken anyway? I know the kids are unkillable...but..wow!

Chaurus poison is "ineffective"? Not even...

Mmmm - I guess I am referring to my current game w/ my character all maxed out - I recall Buckom saying how it wasn't until LVL 50 that he wasn't concerned with chaurus poison... and I guess I just hate them for some reason (and the falmer) - there's something about them that just "fails" for me (it's obviously some issue I have). I've just tired of the huge dwarven/falmer dungeons with falmer after falmer after falmer, and then a pit with all these damn chaurus and their disgusting egg sacs - the sickest part is that even though the egg sacs are so numerous and they make such a disturbing noise when I loot them, I am compelled to loot them thoroughly anyway (for the most part).

I, too, hate the mages - but I wouldn't rank them in my most annoying category. (More props to Buckom): I recall a thread wherein Buckom mentioned how he used the enchanting skill tree's elemental perks for defense more than for offense. I keyed in on this and now wear crafted items that reduce fire and electric damage by like 47 or 54% - can't remember which. And being a Nord, I get an automatic damage reduction for frost. All told, really takes the edge off mages.

They are probably annoying, but I can tolerate them because I use them to fill Grand Soul gems - at higher levels there are plenty of Shadowmasters. svck it, Snow Elves. :P

This. ^

I got so tired of them slowing me with frost-based spells and eating up my HP as I closed on them or blinding me with fire-based ones and moving so it took me too much time to find them that I came up with a system.

More than once I've underestimated Chaurus while trying to take out Falmer and all I got for my trouble was a damn reload. x.x

DB selection methods are so flawed i joined them just to teach them how it is done

DB recruiter... Your target is dragonborn , he is the harbinger of the companions, archmage of winterhold, thane in 6 of the marches of skyrim and has slain 2 dozen dragons how do you assasinate him

recruit ...... run up to him and hit him with my sword?

DB recruiter ..... NEXT

(still love that quote)

I can't find a necklace of poison immunity with my current character. It's ticking me off. I found one with my first character so early that I thought they were common. Nope. A 50% resisting necklace is the best I've been able to do, and that was on an NPC I killed during a quest. Those spriggans are nothing if you have poison immunity. No ranged damage from them at all. Yeah, they're annoying now.

But I'll go with the falmer/chaurus-infested depths for creepiest and most annoying.

Wolves. It's not like they're tough or anything, quite the opposite, they're like gnats. And I always hear them before I see them; I'll be running along and then I hear "Awoooooooooooo!" and so I'm spinning around with my weapons drawn ready to swat the pesky buggers, and no wolves anywhere, so I figure they must not've seen me or something, so I put my weapon away and keep running and then a few seconds later, "Arf arf!" and I'm getting bit for like 3 damage. :stare: And I encounter them ALL THE TIME.
