I'm not a mom, but whatever you get her will probably make her happy. The fact that you know and care will be the thing that impresses her.

Edit: Make you happy? God do I even think when I type...

..Something... she likes? She's your mom dude, not ours. You know the kinds of things she would want, not us.

My mom likes kung fu and the associated history. So, the best present for yours would naturally be an authentic Chinese sword.

Rachael Ray's magazine?

You can even bookmark what you'd like her to make you for dinner.

"Mom, make this one. Now!

oh....yeah....happy birthday.....and whatever...."

what she likes more: getting gifts; hearing you say something nice to her; you doing something for her; time you spend with her; when you hug her?
obviously she will appreciate all of those. but some more so than others. this is, of course, in addition to the gift you have planned already :)

as for the gift itself... well, generalizations is best we can do unless you tell more about what she likes or don't like, etc. generally, it's the thought that counts though, so don't sweat it too much. and hand made is generally better than store bought.

you don't have to get her a gift, unless she's expecting one. if you live away from home show up or call her and talk to her. that would probably be enough. but what do I know, I don't really like my mom.

I'm calling BS on that. If i don't get my mom something that she'd actually like she complains. She like hats? Get her some kind of hat. Simple as that.

My mom likes coffee...and the last time I checked her percolator is busted...sometimes it made coffee, sometimes it boiled water..

I'd probably get her one of those fancy coffee makers that scans the bar code of the type and then makes the coffee but she'd probably complain about the price of each of those bar coded packages.

So if your mom is anything like mine, maybe just buy a new coffee machine?

Cook for her. Seriously. This is a good opportunity to start polishing or developing your culinary skills. I do it every Mother's Day, and the last was crab stuffed squid with a garlic and sherry reduction. Food is a gift that forges memories much stronger than some "shot-in-the-dark-trinket".

Mothers are all the same...

No, not really.

Cook for her.

This.

Also, pay a visit to the Body Shop. As long as you put a bit of thought into it, you can't go wrong with The Body Shop :)
