Mounted Combat Opinions

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:02 am

How is everyone feeling about Mounted Combat (Assuming you have gotten to try it)? I just traveled from Riften to Markarth in less than an Hour (RL) killing everything along the way with my 2H Axe and this is even with a new character i made just for Mounted Combat. Originally i thought it was useless because it is better to travel on foot but now... i love it. It is pretty entertaining and makes horses useful...but now Beth is making me ask for...Horse Armor...anyways Opinions?

Horse armor ahoy ! Take my money and make it possible Bethesa !

OT

Mounted combat is very nice indeed. Allthough I've yet to explore it with melee weapons. I've done mounted combat a lot with my archer now and it's a hoot. The horses still feel a bit sluggish though.

I like it, bit hard to get used to at first. Especially archery gave me a few problems the first few times. But once you have that under control it's a lot of fun.

Basically I've been slaying Mammoths and Giants for the last few days just to try things out. Definitely an add-on worth having. I do have to admit that I did create a mod for myself to make my horses immortal because I found that they die really, really fast otherwise.

I'm playing on Xbox 360, so I haven't been able to try this out yet. But I am excited for this, especially because my character build is knight-based, and knights fight on horses =)

Being on PC I've had some time to get use to it, it's not a feature I use but it's still nice to have it for those who want it, would be nice if you could dual wield on mounts, your character can hold both weapons at the same time on the mount but, he only uses the primary one, would've liked magic as well but Todd explained the reasons for not including it so that's OK.

It's all a massive conspiracy to get players begging for horse armour.

Seriously though, it looks great, I love the way you swing 2h weapons with one hand.
I just routed a bunch of bandits lollygagging inside the walls of a fort... they didn't know what hit them.

I'm finding archery a bit tricky though.

It's been a lot easier for me to hit things with bows than melee weapons on horseback.

You have to get almost right on top of the enemy to hit them with an axe or two-handed weapon. (Unless there was a new change since the 1.6 beta)

Does that really make a difference? You can swing your sword both ways anyway, depending on which button you press and the transition between swings is pretty sharp too, so it's almost as if you were duel-weilding.

I'm a PC user so I've been a fan of this for the few weeks I've already had it. It started out a little glitchy, but that's expected as part of the Beta program, and it was nothing game-breaking. Now that it's been perfected I absolutely love it and find myself galloping around slicing up anything I can find without having to dismount my horse, which is a huge plus. ^_^

Xbox 360 player, I like it for archery, swords not bad but had trouble with some of the smaller axes, unless someone drops something else soon I will have drop by one of the houses and choose something with a longer handle. Unfortunately the console has just locked up and seems not to be going to revive, so I will I will have to come back to it. It is a bit confusing trying to guide the horse and aim at the same time with the bows, but I am sure I could get used to it. I might take a liking to my horse yet

Just stating my opinion that it would've been a nice feature, no it doesn't really matter as it doesn't take away from the experience but, nevertheless would have been nice to add. To be honest mounted combat was never something that appealed to me much anyway but I'm happy for those that have the feature since it's something that has been asked for since Oblivion.

Not got the patch yet but I'm wondering how I will hit people off a horse with my dagger...

Do Staffs work on the horse? I know spells don't but what about the staffs?

No first person aiming unfortunately but line the curser up and you can use it as a guide. The range seems to be a bit less than on foot though. Now armed horse riding would be fun if you wanted to hunt rabbits. So many were following me around in the end I had a go at one with a sword. Defying gravity the rabbit snuffed it. Yet the big troll right beside me I have trouble hitting, with anything but an arrow. I got them eventually with sword or axe but lost a bit of health.

Yea, i can imagine trying to use daggers as well, have to have elastic arms or something :-P but hunting does sound fun on horseback, those elk have no escape now!!!

Tried it quickly this morning before going to work but didn't know you could use two-handed weapon in one hand. Question on that though: I'm assuming the two-handed skill is involved, not the one-handed skill?
