Mounted Combat in Patch 1.6, what about mounted enemies?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:33 pm

Personally, I think it's awesome that Bethesda finally gave us the opportunity to cut down enemies from the comfort of our trusty steeds. But wouldn't it be even better if there were enemies (bandits, or imperials/stormcloaks) that could also attack while riding horses? I think the thing that the Civil War in Skyrim is missing the most is cavalry battles. That would be epic. Just imagine defending Whiterun from a Stormcloak Cavalry unit. Or imagine yourself traveling across the plains when BAM! A bandit raiding party on horseback attacks you out of nowhere. I think that would make for some interesting battle sequences within the game, especially with the dlc coming out soon.

I think it'll be sort of disappointing if we're the only ones in the world of Skyrim with the ability. Is that confirmed? :(

I think bethesda will add enemies that are on horses. I don't see why they wouldn't give that option to npcs.

Does anyone know the release of the patch for Xbox?

It would be silly of them not to.

There are almost no npc in the world that rides a horse anywhere (except for letrush if you give it to him)..so it's very unlikely

i saw Bethesda's concept art detailing Falmer....there were baby kidnapping and some Chaurus art. These monstrosities were originally intended to be.....wait for it....FALMERS' MOUNTS!!!!
Maybe they will be reintroduced as an Falmers' Ground Invasion Force (DG or HF).

Actually, if you pay attention to the random encounters, you'll see nobles riding horses. They usually have an imperial soldier protecting them. The noble won't attack though, he'll just get off his horse and run away. Hunters are also on horses sometimes.

I wonder how Bethesda could make the AI work for this sort of thing.

I actually don't believe there will be Mounted Enemies, simply based on pessimism. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not going to get my hopes up and then be disappointed.

It didn't even "launch" for PC yet - it's still in beta test.

On point, I think that adding mounted enemies was probably too much to implement in a patch. However, I have noticed that they included mounted combat footage in the Dawnguard trailer. Most likely, that is just because the patch and the DLC are both coming out around the same time, so they are showing the feature off together. But, it strikes me that adding mounted enemies in the DLC could work since it would allow Bethesda to make more extensive changes than is possible in a patch. But that is purely speculation, so don't get hyped up.

This would be awesome, but since I've never seen an enemy on horseback, I'm guessing we won't see it.

Falmers riding Chaurus... *shudders*

It'd also be cool to aim a crossbow behind you and fire a dragon that's flying behind you in hot pursuit.

If only they made horses faster.

Why? So we get the occasional battle when we randomly see an enemy on horseback? Only if they make a different enemy that is only horseback. Which, is unlikely.

I've seen nobles, a hunter and some guy where ebony armour and dwarven boots (one of those folk who attack you for no reason) riding horses.

They said they are adding new enemies into the vanilla game.
We could see mounted enemies at later levels.

I doubt mounted enemies will happen in the vanilla game, but maybe someone could mod it to work. Still would be a massive undertaking to get the AI to fight well on horseback.

I'd love to see mounted enemies though, especially for Civil War stuff!
