"mouse" problem

Post » Mon Jul 18, 2011 11:31 am

Earlier today I ended up spilling some soda on my keyboard, mouse, and tablet. After I had everything cleaned up, I noticed an issue with my cursor. Whenever I'm typing something, the cursor will always scroll to the end of the line. I can't go back to fix mistakes or anything like that. The problem also makes it impossible to use drop-down boxes, and when I was looking through my the preferences for my mouse, whenever I opened a certain tab, whatever is causing the problem would "click" one of the buttons and open a new page. Had to ALT+F4 twice to get out of it. It's making it very hard to search on Google, or type in web addresses. I've checked the keyboard, mouse, and tablet, and they don't seem to be the problem. They were the only things affected by the spill. Any idea?

And since I can't add or remove things, I'll put this here: I can't highlight either, because it just immediately scrolls.

I do, however, think that I may have activated/deactivated some ancient advanced option hidden deep within the bowels of my computer when I was cleaning the mouse and keyboard. In doing so I would repeatedly hit the buttons/keys at random.

Have you tried a different mouse? You did spill something on it after all.

I tried a new keyboard to see if that was the problem, it wasn't.

I was going to try a new mouse, but I just unplugged the old one and checked with my Tablet to see if the problem is still there. It was.

Of course then I thought the problem was the Tablet. I unplugged it. Problem is still there.

Then I doubt its a result of the soda's doing.

Does your mouse have custom drivers you can reinstall?

More than likely some key combo got pressed that enabled somethingoranother

Navigate through your mouse preferences with your keyboard. Tab key is your friend.

I can't navigate through preferences because when I do, whatever is causing the problem, causes a button to be pressed and a window to open repeatedly.

Start in safe mode, see if it fixes it.

Okay, I just did something (not entirely sure what) and it seems to have fixed it. At least for now. Hoping this lasts.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I'm thinking that a button got stuck. It happens, and the only real way to fix it is to make the button stop sticking.

I made sure that wasn't the case. I think I tweaked something in preferences that fixed it.

Usually I would read the title and think "tech problem", however this time I didn't and I was going to suggest mouse poison. My bad.
