Movement/Strafe shooting similar to RTCW?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:50 pm

RTCW was my favorite FPS of all time. That being said my favorite aspects were always the movement speed (fast) and how you could be in a 1 on 1 with someone and strafe while hipfiring while the opponent was doing the same thing and then you took off a helmet or maybe you got into trouble and then proceeded to bunny hop, etc.

My question is this...does Brink have similar shooting mechanics/movement? I have watched all of the videos and I think there might be some 1 v 1 fights like this but I haven't really seen it in any of the videos so that is why I'm asking. I'm so excited for this game and I really hope to have epic 1 v 1 fights like RTCW. I've only been waiting for a game like that for several years lmao.

Welcome and since you also posted this at the SD forum you will likely get a better answer since it is where the devs and most of the harcore SD game player hang. Several reports I have heard from SD vets is that the movement speed for a medium was about the same as either as RTCW or ETQW.

Yeah that's why I posted it over there lol. I'm really wondering about this because I haven't played a game since RTCW that had the shooting that I described. Even something as simple as getting shot in the back and being able to do a "quickturn" and 3 shot them in the head. Things like that were EPIC. I have high hopes for this game. Sometimes I will watch a vid think that maybe there is some hope and then sometimes I will see someone move slow as heck and lose some excitement lol.

They are constantly balancing and updating the game. If medium isn't fast enough go light.

Indeed, I loved turning around and still win because you were "higher" skilled or plain lucky :P

We can hope that Brink has this type of shooting mechanic. I still have yet to see any video of people strafe shooting each other in a 1 v 1. Its all people iron sighting standing still getting into positions (COD)

The game still looks better than anything out there but I'm really interested to see a 1 v 1 hipfiring fight to see if Brink will be what I think it can be.

On another note the videos I've seen for Rage seem to have that fast strafe shooting movement that RTCW had. Maybe it's because id's tech 5 engine enables that type of movement? I don't know. SD + id Tech5 + Wolfenstein ip =

I do hope so, and I'm pretty satisfied with what I've seen and heard.

Last Wolfenstein blew. I think that the Wolfenstein IP belongs to iD and not SD. iDtech5 does look sick though, wish RAGE didn't had vehicles. (Or I should check it properly :P)

Yeah I know that the last Wolf blew. SD didn't develop it though which makes me believe this can be possible. The Wolfenstein ip is too popular to be forgotten about and if they want to save it they need a great game. id does own the ip but both id and SD are part of Bethesda making this scenario entirely possible. I think one of the SD people mentioned this in an interview I saw.

Well, I would love to see them working on a project like Wolfenstein. Best case scenario: iD + SD + Wolfenstein + Bethesda = (Massive) Win
