Movies that remind you of Skyrim?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 11:51 am

What movies or TV shows you know that remind you of Skyrim or get you in the mood for the game?

I will start with a few obvious examples to get them out of the way:
"LOTR trilogy". DUH!
"Dragonheart" (also seemed a little obvious.... especially because there's a dragon theme in there)

but beyond that there are some crappy fantasy movies like "in the name of the king: Dungeon siege" or "pathfinder". While they ARE pretty bad i enjoy fantasy movies for their atmosphere. I actually enjoyed pathfinder.
But i dont think anyone could enjoy "dungeons and dragons". That movie was more disturbing that the old stripper from the last Tosh.0 sketch...
But if i am thinking about nords, fantasy and dragons, the most suitable movie that doesnt fit this thread is "how to train your dragon" :twirl:? an amazing animated movie!

Shows are more rare –
"legend of the seeker" and "merlin" are kinda childish and mediocre, but as i said – i like fantasy.
"Game of thrones" was a good show and "Camelot" was OK as well.
I saw some trailers on youtube for two mini series called "The Ring Of The Nibelungs" and "Knights of Bloodsteel". haven't watched them yet. the latter looks.... low budget.

I have a few more ideas but i'll live them for you to suggest :)

So, what movies or TV shows can YOU recommend that remind you of skyrim or TES universe?
With a bit of luck if everyone shares their most hated or loved fantasy\medieval movies we might get ideas for movies we haven't seen ourselves to watch.

The 13th Warrior, not a great movie but I enjoyed it.

And one of the actors in that also has a role as voice actor in Skyrim.

I don't know what it's called but there is some greek mythology type movie coming out on the same day as Skyrim. I think it's just coincidence though.

When the Raven Flies and the rest of the Raven Trilogy (epic Icelandic cult movies, comparable to Leone's spaghetti westerns and Kurosawa's samurai movies, but with vikings)
Anything based on a Germanic saga (this includes most films based on Wagner operas)

It's an old movie from the 80's, but some may remember it: Dragonslayer. Not just because of the dragons either. Also the first 15 min. of Conan the Barbarian when he was a boy. The village was in a similar style and climate to what I've seen of Skyrim.

Let me see LOTR, Beowulf, and 13th warrior have already been said but with all the nords in this game I can't help but think of Conan. Eragon also comes to mind but that is a horrible movie but an ok book series

maybe parts of Conan (barbarian and destroyer)

perhaps a little bit of LOTR too.

and Red Sonja (underrated)

but honestly, no movie really comes even close to Skyrim's atmosphere.

But Conan would have been a very buff Breton if he existed in the ES universe, not a Nord.

Dragonslayer
Conan the Barbarian/Destroyer
Gladiator (visceral combat)
Centurion (for the landscape/environment. Also a good story though)

I don't know much about the differences between the different races but aren't brentons the magical human race? If so then does Conan use a lot of magic?

No, but Cimmerians are a Celtic people in Howard's universe, not a Germanic people.

few times ago I saw a low-Fantasy Remix of Moby dike. And it was the story of a lone adventurer who joined a kind of a vehicle who go in the snow. And the vehicle's captain lost his sister because, when he was younger, she was killed by a dragon so he wants a revenge. Tht's why he formed a kind of a dragon hunt team.

Please can someone remind me the name of this film?
