Moving from PS3 to PC

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 11:38 am

Have been playing Skyrim on the PS3, i'm up to level 48 but the lag and loading times are unbearable. So i'd like to play it on my PC but not sure if my machine will be up to it. My specs are: Dual core 2.66 - 2GB RAM - GForce 8800 GTS - 1TB HDD. If anyone can let me know if its worthwhile me trading in my PS3 copy for the PC game, i'd be very grateful :)

You'll be down towards the minimum experience and might struggle with cities and when there's a lot of battle action. Note there is a thread for this already stickied at the top of the forum.

Here is what I have:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
ATI Radeon 3850 512mb
SB X-fi
3 GB Ram

My ps3 gives me much smoother frame rates. Doesn't matter if the settings are on medium or low either. Ps3 wins performance wise.

A GTX280 might be worthwile. The game is also very CPU dependent.

See specs in my sig - as you can expect some compromises have been made. Playable; yes. Eye candy; not even close.

The game is very cpu dependent. A bad cpu will make good graphic cards look bad.

Will the game get progressively worse as the game goes on?

Some people claim so but honestly haven't met anything of the sort yet. I'm starting to wonder if its only people who play archers and are 'poor shots' (ie hundreds of arrows left all over the place :P)

Not nearly as noticeably as the ps3 version, since pcs can access a much larger amount of ram/virtual memory. Some people are reporting crashes after playing for a very long time 100+ hours, but there should be next to no difference in terms of performance.

If you do get it for pc, I would recommend getting another 2gb of ram. A 2gb stick can be found for around 20$ and will make a big difference for longer play sessions and loading times.

Edit: Ain't never not made any double negatives, nohow, no sir!
