Moving CK

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 11:46 pm

I am wondering whether the CK can be moved outside of the Skrim installation.

I'd like to speed up the CK by placing it on my C: drive because that is an SSD.

If not, then is there a way to install only Skyrim on the C: drive, and not everything else like Steam and the other games I have through them.

Thanks!

Hard/Symbolic links may be what you are looking for. http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html allows you to do this quite easily. Lots of people use this method to store certain games on SSDs while the rest of the Steam games are on an HDD. You could do this just for CKs files, but you'll probably encounter less issues and make it easier to maintain (updates may add new files that would require their own symbolic links) by moving the entire Skyrim folder to the SSD.

You can also do this via command line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpqzqVqR3K4&feature=player_embedded a quick video tutorial.
