[RELEASE] MTUI

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:33 pm

MTUI now supports Fallout: New Vegas. The mod improves the default interface with a number of minor but essential adjustments like much smaller fonts, larger item selection areas, increased conversation menus, and so on. Designed for screen resolutions of 1024x768 and higher.

Installation:
Extract the archive into your Fallout 3 folder (e.g., C:\Program Files \Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas).

Uninstallation:
See MTUI Readme.txt for step-by-step instructions.

Thank you! :foodndrink:

The interface is one of a number of things I've been unable to tolerate.

One down, x to go... ;)

This part has me really confused:
Extract the archive into your Fallout 3 folder (e.g., C:\Program Files \Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas).

There is no such path, and that FO3 part doesn't help the confusion. :P

I tried putting the files in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas and C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\data but it didn't work

Mod.

Really? It would seem strange to me if all the unique objects from the preorder packs would already be in the vanilla meshes/textures BSA files. Kinda defeats the purpose of the preorder packs for the PC if anyone can just mod the things in. Or are they remade with custom meshes/textures?

Also yeah, the installation directory in the instructions isn't right (I assume you copied the installation instructions from FO3) because the New Vegas folder is always within the Steam folder.

The UI looks good! :)

Could be as simple as he has it pirated therefore the odd path name.
Or he somehow managed to install it outside of Steam.

Anyway. Awesome mod.

Can confirm that is where the (unmentionable) installs the game. Had to go over to a friend's house today to help him "fix his game". When I saw that and asked him how he did that, he showed me the disk image. I told him to fix his pirated game himself, or if he had any respect he would buy the damn game and left. Not saying Max did, just seems odd how everyone else seems to have it in their steam folder.

wow guess you never done anything illegal in your whole life (unless you just got born that pretty imposable), anyway i am no saint like grayewolf here, but i would never set myself as judge and jury over my friends, what they do is up to them, in Denmark its sold on DVD, so no steam.

Even the retail copies have to be activated on Steam. Anyway he probably just copied the installation instructions from FO3 and changed 'Fallout 3' to 'Fallout New Vegas', forgetting that the directory is different now.

Anyway back to the mod? :)

I get a crash whenever I enter VATS but this could just as well be an issue with the new patch. I'll see if it gets better when I uninstall MTUI.

Works fine here, make sure you've changed the binvalidateolderfiles variable to 1 in all of the ini's, if it's not set to 1 then most mods won't work.

For crying out loud, the mod, its readme, and its installation path come directly from Fallout 3. I have no idea where the game installs itself since I don't have it installed on my computer and I didn't even bother to recheck. If you can't find the game's install path, you shouldn't download files on your computer.

As for preorders, the game had one preorder bonus. The rest came from placeholder entries with no actual preorder meshes. E.g., see http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1125206-relz-pre-order-packs/.

Povuholo, I doubt that this mod can cause any crashes. It simply reorders the layout of the interface.

The game is installed in this path by default.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas

or

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas

It'll be different depending on where you installed steam.

I know where the install path is. My point is that I put the files in different folders in the path and it didn't work. So will you please try to help me figure out my problem?

BTW the installation/uninstallation instructions for the mod aren't quite right. Unlike the vanilla textures and such which are safely stored in .bsa files, the vanilla menu XML files are already in the data/menu folders. This means if you just install MTUI, overwriting the XML files without backing anything up, you can't get the original XML files back without re-installing the game.

Deleting the XML files to uninstall the mod will then only make the game crash because it can't find the files.

So adding a 'back up/restore the menu folder' step to the installation/uninstallation instructions would be smart. :)

The menus are in Fallout - Misc.bsa. This should work exactly like a texture replacer.

Ah, thanks, I didn't know that!

Strange though, my game always instantly crashes if I delete the hud_main_menu.xml, it doesn't automatically use the one in the bsa. But that's alright if I can just pull it from the bsa file. :)

Even with the original file from the bsa my game crashes now. Something else must be going on. Forget everything I said. ;)

It depends on what changes you've made to related files/prefabs. The crash may come from anywhere. It likely does use the bsa version. :)

This isn't working for me. I've got it extracted to the necessary directory (it's all in Data\Menus and Data\Textures as needed), but I still have the console UI ingame.

Max or DarN...

Is this doing the exact same thing as DarNified Mod?, if not are they compatible with each other??

Same thing, only MTUI relies more on expanding the windows whereas DarN's relies more on making the text smaller.
