I was sneaking around on one of my first Thieve's guild missions and used muffle quite a bit. Every time I used it my Illusion spell went up by one whole level. Now I'm around an hour and a half farther than my last save, wondering if I should go back to before this bug happened. Has anyone else experienced this bug? Is there going to be a fix?

It's not a bug. You level up your skills by using them, and some skills (most of the magic schools) are very easy to level up that way.

I realize that Magic is fast to level up, but one whole level per cast of a spell is absurd. I'm pretty sure it's a bug.

It's not.

Remember levelling is exponential now- the lower your level, the faster you level up. The first 10 or so times I used muffle I levelled. Then it was every other time. Now it's about every 10 or 15 times. It levels itself out eventually.

Get a higher sneak skill than your muffle will have an better effect.

Exactly. Eventually you will notice it is not so quick to level those skills.
