Multiple characters - save tips?

Post » Fri Jul 13, 2012 12:33 am

Anyone got any tips on how to differentiate between characters without having to manually flip through every single last save file? I was *hoping* that they'd do something like how Dragon Age 2 did it with a list of characters and then a list of saves for each but nope. :/ So now my dilemma of trying to play another character is finding my other ones when I want to play say, my 2h orc warrior after trying something new.

I'm on the PC btw. Not to start a platform war, but someone suggested on another forum(did a Google search on this first and found *nothing* PC related) to save files on thumb drives for the Xbox... but I'm not sure how I could do that on the PC unless I'm manually moving folders of saves around every time I feel like playing something else.

I come to you, oh mighty community, for help in this great and mighty problem of annoyance.

BTW, Bethesda, I love you guys but the way you handled save files this time around is atrocious. Sorry.

At first I thought you were on the console. I was going to suggest using a Thumb Drive and/or the Cloud Save feature.

Being on the PC is not an issue for save files at all. I just create a separate folder for other characters and only copy over the one I want to play to the Skyrim Save Games folder...problem solved...

Urg. Annoying.

Thumb drives on the Xbox are less annoying imo. Digging into folders = teh svck. Especially since I can never remember when I need/want to where Steam installed and put my game. ( I come from the days were EVERYTHING installed in the "Program Files" folder in it's own separate folder and I didn't have to dig through a third party folder to find my game files.. my poor Bethesda Softworks folder now only has Morrowind and Oblivion in it :( )

Thanks though! I'll work on it in the morning (after 1 am).

You don't have to go into the program files. It's in the documents.

Just go to...Documents / My Games / Skyrim.

There you will find the folder "Saves".

Just create a new folder for each character and keep them in...
Documents / My Games

Then when you want to play that character, just cut their folder's contents and paste it in...
Documents / My Games / Skyrim / Saves.

When you are done with them and want to play another, just cut the list from the "Saves" folder and paste it back their designated folder.

Simple. Bring down the console and type:

savegame "Sakiri the Omnipotent"

Do that for each of your characters.
