Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a 2nd copy of FNV. (Yes, I'm a fan boy...)

I pre-ordered one copy on Steam already, so I'll have the Caravan pack. The main reason I'm thinking of ordering a 2nd copy is that the "Collector's Edition" looks REALLY nice for the price. (I paid $120 for Fallout 3, so both copies of FNV would be the same price, LOL)

My question is, if I do this, and if I buy it from a retailer that has a different pre-order bonus, will I be able to "activate" BOTH pre-order packs on the same installation (and same character) of FNV? So I could have the Caravan Pack and, say, the Mercenary Pack? (Or the Classic?? Can't decide...)

How are these pre-order packs activated? PLEASE don't say you have to be signed into "Live" to activate them.... I always turn Live off... for one thing, it makes modding difficult, plus I have no desire to use Live, period. If the pre-order packs require Live, then I won't even bother with them at all.

Just curious! C'mon Bethesda, talk me into spending another $70 on this game before it even comes out! LOL

The pre-order packs reall aren't that amazing man. I mean its just a SLIGHTLY unique version of stuff thats already in game. Actually most of it isn't even uniqe, its just stuff like additional starting items.

You have to be signed into LIVE/PSN/Steam to get access to the pscks. Trust me, the packs aren't that great (as the first replyer said). So if you don't want to log onto LIVE, you won't be missing much.

Also, I've said this WAY too many times, but it's Obsidian Entertainment who're making this game. Just a little tidbit there.

I believe these packs are activated through the same place where you activate mods.

It's not worth it.There would be things much better throughout the game without the use of the packs.They are only best used in the beginning.I don't think it's worth it to buy another game for the pack.It would be better to just buy the CE of the game or something.

go to gamestop.
buy the game
take out the pre order code.
return the game the next day and get your money back.

Yeah if you've really gotta get them (not worth it at all imo, it's a lot of money for a unique item or two which will in all likelihood be modded within days) then this.

But seriously, spend the money on something more worthwhile. Hell if you can't think of anything, I'll take 70 dollars!

Yes, you can install multiple pre-order packs.

While only 1/10000 people are going to actually *do* that, we had to test it to make sure it works.

Works great.

And we don't use Live on PC, we use Steam. You activate the DLC on Steam on PC.

On 360 we use the Xbox Live Marketplace.

On PS3 we use the PSN Store.

I went for the Steam pre-order at first, and then got a bad case of Swag-itis when I saw the contents of the collector's edition, so I got a Gamestop pre-order as well.

Doesn't bother me. I played the #$@% out of Oblivion and FO3, and replaced a scratched up Oblivion disk twice.



Odds are, the vast majority of the goodies could easily be made via the GECK anyway. Lightweight leather armor? Snip off the pertinent parts off the Leather in a modeling program. Same goes with the lightweight Metal armor. All the guns with nonstandard specs? Could be done with only the GECK.

Thats cool - I plan to get my Wife and Daughter's copy via steam, so that will be 3 for me (I pre-ordered the CE from GameStop).

Son is only 9 so he's not quite into FNV-level games yet I really missed out on the coasters. I'll need to pick those up separately.

As people have said, I would not buy a new game for the dlc pack, you probably won't use the items anyway when you really get into the game...

Your getting this for the PC? Why buy something twice to get access to that which you already have?

All of these items are going to be in the as delivered games inventory, just mod them in. Or, wait about 4 hours after release and a mod will be up on Fallout Nexus that has all the goodies in it. Perhaps with a nice menu that lets you pick which pack you want during Character Creation (the way it should have been all along)

If you want the CE, then by all means get that. It is a cool collection of goodies with the game.

But, don't encourage Bethesda and others to dole out these Different Pre-Purchase Bonus Packs among different retailers like this ever again by buying multiple copies.

I am going to preorder from Gamestop, as the vault 13 canteen is the *only* preorder item that doesn't have a "normal" counterpart in the game, and it could actually be useful throughout the course of the game, where as with most of the other packs, you'll be replacing the equipment for the most part.

Not to mention there is a gamestop not even a mile from my house (or close to it). sure i'll have to pay $5 sales tax, but I'd be paying closer to $6 for "release day" shipping from amazon, AND I wouldn't have the canteen

I doubt the canteen will be excessively useful, but if it gives me some kind of edge, I might as well use it, eh?

That answers my question. And it's nice to know Live! won't be in use... I hated it in FO3 and disabled it immediately. Steam rocks, however. No problems there.

Okay, just to be CLEAR, since so many people have said I'm lame for buying 2 copies... I have no choice if I want the Collector's Edition. I have already pre-ordered the game on Steam. They took my money. My money is gone. I can't cancel it. I can't get it back.

THEN I saw the Collector's edition, with the graphic novel, the DVD, the playing cards, and the poker chips. So now, if I want all that physical stuff, I HAVE to buy the game twice.

And since I have to buy it twice ANYWAY, I was wondering if I could use two different pre-order packs. That's all.

Well, here's an update.... something that all Steam customers should be aware of:

A staff member at Steam replied to my ticket and said that they would be happy to cancel my pre-order, but that since I had another game in the same cart which was on sale at the time, that I would have to re-purchase the OTHER game at FULL PRICE. So basically they are offering to cancel my Fallout: New Vegas pre-order if I pay them another 20 bucks.

No deal, Steam. (I realize I'd still be 30 bucks better off than I am now, but it's kind of the principal of the thing...)

I still want the FNV Collector's Edition, and I have already placed my pre-order with Gamestop. I guess I'm going to wind up with 2 copies of Fallout: New Vegas.

So here's a new question: what to do with an extra copy?

Gamestop doesn't let you return a new game if it's been opened. The only option you would have is to sell it back to them for drastically less than what you paid for it.

You can probably get all that crap on E-Bay for cheap, after the game comes out.





PM me If you want to know ways around this. Or anybody for that matter. You will never waste 60 dollar on a bad game again. All tricks will be explained...
