Music I like

Post » Mon Aug 01, 2011 7:36 pm

As far as I understand this is the place to post stuff about..stuff.
I like music.

The type of music I really like I think is called 'trip-hop' and is made by people like Portishead, Lamb and Moloko.
I was wondering if anyone else likes this type of music, and if they do maybe point me to artists I do not know yet but are similar.

Meanwhile, yay, music.
What kind do you like best?

Postishead is sixy. Will have to check out Lamb.

I'd recommend Perdition City by Ulver. It's one of my favourite albums  Definitely some trip hoppy stuff in there.

3 or 4 I think. Don't know if it will be your cup of tea, bit older than trip hop, but give http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usYEImDgztM a go. If you don't like it, no harm done.

Excuse my ignorance, but what on Nirn/Oblivion/Earth is "trip-hop".

Sub Genres are getting out of control.

"Its experimental industrial black metal hip hop! Or maybe, just maybe, I'm full of [censored]!"

I dont really know how to explain it, I do know it is very different from rock or hip-hop.
It is kinda mellow and trippy, I guess, a lot of emphasis on slow beat and repetition of slow beat.

I cant really explain it,
Its like Portishead.

Kind of, except the Surfers are from Texas, not Bristol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ1cACrPHdc&feature=related is the sort of thing.

you should check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-GyogBio1Q. they're kind of more rock than trip-hop but they're definitely still topical.

also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAXfVMwjEUs isn't trip-hop at all but they're structurally and thematically similar enough that i think you would enjoy them (though múm is more about EVERYTHING IS ADORABLE and most trip-hop sounds kind of BRISTOL IS REALLY [censored] WET GUYS).

also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOMJz4aOYwc is more ambient/hip-hop than trip-hop and also WHITE AS HELL but this album is really tight.

i really like the idea of trip-hop but i've honestly never found anything that's really CLICKED WITH ME apart from Portishead and to a far lesser degree Tricky. i love hip-hop though, if you're looking for hip-hop recs i can hit you up.

Always love me a bit of trip-hop, but aside from Massive Attack I've never really delved into the genre...

Except when Mike Patton released his solo album, which was pretty much exclusively in that style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB17RP2vmLY

No need to be an ass about it. It's is a well established and entirely legit genre, fusing ambient bass heavy (usually electronic) music with sparing amounts of rapping and floaty, often female, vocals. Regardless of what you call it, it clearly has its own sound, and trip-hop is how it's usually referred to, so why not?

I used to like 'Angel' from Massive Attack but that's about it. Very moody song indeed and the video was excellent.
