music selection

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 12:12 pm

i personally like music in-game and it drastically effects my gameplay if i'm playin Oblivion i like mellow acoustics and for FPS i like Hard Rock helps make me more alert thought it makes it tough to listen for movement maybe music in certain times of gameplay like if your firing your gun for so long and are taking fire play a little rock and if your quiet and not in combat no music at all?

I don't listen to the music, I listen for footsteps, sounds of gunfire, and other giveaway clues. 5XB headsets rock.

That's the same headset I have.

The mainmenu theme sounds really cool. I wish SD would upload the complete track.
And I hope Brink will have some additional ambient tracks in other menus (Armory, Customization and so on).
But in the fight I need no music, beacuse my gun makes the tune! ;)

I prefer to play the game without music. It increases my immersion. Sometimes I listen to some background DnB.

Sometimes I like more of a movie feel when I play games, so in game music is a yes from me.

I don't usually listen to music when playing FPS online, since there are a lot of other more important sounds to listen for, but other games, like RPG, MMO, RTS, etc. I'll listen to music if I want. On the same note, shooters that include in-game music, like Quake 3 and UT, I was never bothered by it - it actually increased immersion in those instances.

Same here. DnB is probably the best music for fast paced games of all kinds.

I prefer Metal myself. I can't really get into techno or DnB - it just reminds me of upbeat elevator music.

Heh, I just can't really get my head around metal. I do like Manowar, Machine Head, Rage Against The Machine and some songs of Drowning Pool, Slipknot, Slayer and In Flames ... oh well ... I guess I actually can get my head around metal a bit.
Anyway, I don't find most songs consistent enough for gaming.

Listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBGY7kDhGC8 just works much better than listenting to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytgXavA-7Cs, despite it being a great song.
(Also DnB-Albums are often ongoing through all songs, which makes them even better to listen to while gaming.)

Music is great and immersible in single player but if I'm going to play the map 1000 times over it loses its appeal. plus, sound is one of the most important things in a good online shooter.

Here is an idea: have music 'painted' around objectives like lighting, so the closer you are, the louder it gets!

Well, I should have been more clear and stated that I enjoy GOOD Metal, which does not include pretty much any newer "metal" band you hear on popular radio. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qY0-k4uaKKA

- Bands like Dream Theater, Stratovarius, Symphony X, Epica, Slayer, Iced Earth, Nevermore, Testament, Hammerfall - classify as good metal
- Bands like Disturbed, Slipknot, Drowning Pool, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Mudvayne, Papa Roach, Kid Rock, Staind - classify as garbage.

Oh, and another reason why I don't really get into DnB is because I hate bass - I prefer highs and mids in my music.

There is no metal on the radio what so ever, where I live.

EDIT: And I'm really curious why that song you linked is considered to be metal. I'd rather consider it (soft) rock or something along those lines.

It's known as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_metal. - Dream Theater is considered a Progressive Rock/Metal band
Dream Theater (among other prog bands) does everything from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7qMe6erRPU, to more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaJpgVBxKi8, to more http://www.mojvideo.com/video-dream-theater-this-dying-soul/0f933342ffaf91fc0e2b. The variety (and quality) of their work is what I love about them. The song I listed (my favorite) has sections that feature different tempos and and sounds throughout the song.

- Not all Metal is double bass fills and screaming.

Whenever I play a game multiplayer style where there's no story to miss I always stick my Ipod onto Bad Religion, Descendants, NOFX, Leeway, Dead Kens, Black Flag, Propaghandi, or the Bronx or something like that. Makes it more fun for me :mohawk:

I used to play gigs in a punk band. Punk is really fun to play drums on.

Yes it is, I actually play drums in a punk band! How weird...
I'm no where near good enough to take on the bands you listen to, though. Portnoy is a wizard.

Single player, RPG-type games- the music is hugely important to me.

Multi-player competitive- not only do I barely notice it, but with Brink it seems like you're going to need to be listening to the battle above anything else.

That said, I loved the music they were playing in the original Character Customization video on the official site.

It sorta depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm in a "Want to win" mood no music or if I'm just in a care free mood then I'll turn on some music.

when the levee breaks has got to be my ultimate feeling like a badass song
but i remember the good old days when the only song i could play off my ipod was gayfish and jon lajoie so i rocked out to that
other than that, rap and rock are best for fps
80s and other pop and techno are great for single player or co op
or so i found

Can you link an example of it? Wondering if it's the same tune I like.
