Musicals

Anyone here like musicals?

I like going out to see at my local theatre, and seeing a few, notable Spamalot and Young Frakenstein: The Musical.

I do not like musicals. They're cheesy. Especially televised musicals like High School Musical. BLAHHHH.

I HAVE though, come up with a story written musical. It's about people who are forced to entertain their captors through song and dance, or die.

That's why I love them!
Have you even seen Young Frankentein: The Musical or Spamalot?

I find musical movies to be perfect to play on my laptop while I'm working with other stuff. I don't have to sit down and pay attention to the plot (mostly because I probably know it already) and the musical numbers are a welcome break from the dialogue and drama.

The only musical I like is Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber's version to be specific. Emmy Rossum's voice was just angelic.

I have had my share of musicals since my family is very music oriented. I am ready for those days to come to an end but no matter what I always end up watching one and enjoying it! haha

I remember going to a play called Thoroughly Modern Milly. Absolutely amazing. The cast (both acting and amazing dancing), the stage props, the lighting crew all did a wonderful job. I have yet to see a play that surpasses that experience. That's what has to happen in order to enjoy a musical. It has to be spectacular or else it is down right horrible. And most musicals are just down right horrible. There are a few gems, but most of the time... meh..

I love musicals. I am a huge theatre nerd, probably going to major in Stage Management in college. I've worked different roles in musicals, from sound to assistant stage manager to 'running crew' (aka carry heavy [censored] onto the stage). Sadly I can't be in them due to an inability to sing, but it's a hell of a lot of fun to be making the magic happen behind the scenes.

I saw the Broadway tour of Spamalot and it was HILARIOUS. My favorite musicals are The Producers, Sweeney Todd and Fiddler on the Roof. I also love West Side Story, Chicago, Urinetown (not as disgusting as it sounds, promise), and Les Miserables. I really really want to see Book of Mormon and American Idiot. I've even seen a show on Broadway, it was Wicked. Not my favorite but obviously the cast was amazing and it was a good show.

My high school is having auditions for Into the Woods on Monday and Tuesday, I am stage managing it. I'm a huge Sondheim fan and I've seen Act I of it performed as Into the Woods Jr. and I loved it. I'm excited to be stage managing, probably going to be a stressed-out wreck by the end though if previous SMs I've worked for are any indication.

Also, next time you see an Andrew Lloyd Webber show, since you guys are talking about him a lot, personally thank the tech crew. Like, go backstage and shake their hands. I ran sound for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, his shows are helluva-complicated pieces.

Avenue Q is hilarious. Hopefully seeing it in the spring. Young Frankenstein was great. Would love to see Book of Mormon but it's sold out for eternity. Phantom has great music, but I think I got burnt out cause it's the musical everyone goes to. I saw my girlfriend in her high school's production of Oklahoma. It was alright.

Forgot about Urinetown. My friend was in the Syracuse University production and it was awesome. The cops started in the audience looking for the guy, who was somehow planted as an audience member, and they chased him back onto the stage.

RENT is my all time favorite :P.

Oh, and A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel are two awesome sequels (you can watch them on YouTube, they're hilarious and very well done. The one kid ended up in Glee).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XmZIcmRKkc A theatre in my area is doing it in February, I want to see about doing something with it. I seriously don't care if it's putting the puppets on the actors' hands, I'd feel so awesome being able to say I worked on Avenue Q.

Our cop started in the audience too. Before the show I was standing outside the stage door with him and 3 different people were like "Good evening officer" and he just nodded at them. They probably felt like dumbasses when the show started.

Since this is a high school in the south our cops couldn't be gay. But it was still funny because we had a girl who is about 4'5 and looks like a 5th grader play the other one instead.

The only musical I have ever liked is the Buffy the Vampire episode Once More With Feeling.

Also the original Producers if anyone considers it a musical.

Not really, but the musical version of The Producers is a great show. The movie version of it didn't do it justice.

I've never been really interested in musicals. The original Mel Brooks one from 1968 was brilliant.

So a college application asked me to do a top ten list. I made this top ten list of musicals, though I'm not sure if this is what I'm sending in.

1. Sweeney Todd
2. The Producers
3. Fiddler on the Roof
4. Avenue Q
5. Spamalot
6. Rent
7. Les Miserables
8. Wicked
9. Urinetown: The Musical
10. Into the Woods

Wicked is the only one I've seen on Broadway, and Sweeney Todd, the Producers, and Spamalot are the only other ones I've seen professionally done, but I've seen all of them. Anyone else seen enough to do a ranking?

I used to like Phantom of The Opera, but my cousin made me watch the movie with her like 3 tine in one day claiming that "It's such a good movie."

Here are the only two I really like:

I actually worked backstage for Little Women, and I chose to make one of Harold Hill's costumes from The Music Man for my costume design final.
