Naming your saves.

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:37 am

This needs to happen. I keep alot of saves from specific moments in the game, and different characters. You could do it in Morrowind, and ever since Oblivion, I keep having to dig through long lists of saves trying to determine what goes where.

It's just a small thing, but I would find it quite useful.

Thoughts?

Are you on a PC? If so, there's a cure for that.

Otherwise, you're right. Bethesda should implement a way to have the players name and seperate their savefiles per character.

I only find it a pain on my ps3 if I've been jumping back and forth between a few characters that are all at roughly the same point in the game (almost never happens)... When saving there is a whole separate list for different characters which prevents saving over other character saves...

Your saves are in C:\Users\[UserName]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves

You can back them up or rename as you wish.

Do this:

1. Open your console
2. Type: save "Name your save file to whatever you want" (using the quotation marks)
3. Close your console
4. Enjoy your named savefiles

Here's what I did for my main savefile:

save "Bjorn the Fearless"

People also complained -- frequently -- about being unable to name their saved games in Oblivion. Naming your saves is a basic and convenient offering. I guess technology is moving beyond basic and convenient offerings.

No PC for me. So no console. :(

They used to let you do that back in Morrowind, no idea why they stopped. It was one of my favorite little things about Morrowind.

I can't understand why named saves aren't standard, when we could do that in Morrowind. Is that progress????

You only need the quotes if your save name contain spaces though :foodndrink:

That's why I put them in there with the examples that I gave (in case anyone tried to space their named saves)

If you rename the save game, its name will be shown unparsed.

I miss being able to name saves. Sure, give me a suggested name like they do now, but let me type over it. I mean you can do this when you make an enchanted item, so it's not like both the console or PC interfaces can't support this.

What CCNA said. Named saves rock, automatically generated names do not. Having multiple characters is a pain in the ass when you can't name your saves and using the console every time is annoying.

Character slots would make it so much easier as well. It's not hard to do .
