NavMesh question...

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:56 pm

I'm currently at Searchlight Airport, building the first of what promises to be a small series of highly-involved homes for my characters.

The problem is... the only entry to the airport itself was that collapsed tunnel, which annoyed me. I like tunnels. There are very few tunnels of any sort in New Vegas. This seemed like a prime opportunity to create one.

Little did I know that that tunnel crossed an exterior-cell boundary line, somewhere right around the middle.

Now, one side has NavMesh... and the other can't be connected to it!

>.<

How does this even work? Am I missing something here?

I see the NavMesh Bethesda already has in place... and it seems to be connected just fine!

Why can't I do it?

Each cell has it's own navamesh which is "butted up" to the navamesh of the cell next to it and not connected directly. If the 2 cell navameshs are correctly "butted' together and each is finalized, you will get a bright green line from each cell showing they are "connected". Where you do not have the green connections, npc's/creatures/etc. will not cross at that point. If the navamesh from one cell is not present, you will have to add it and then finalize it.
Hope this helps.

Ah! Ah ha ha ha! Thank you! This is exactly what I was hoping someone would say...

As I said, I've never really worked with exterior navmesh before, so I was really concerned when I couldn't connect the one side of this tunnel to the other.

Considering that I still have to figure out exactly how folks are getting -into- the airport now that I've removed the only entrance... the last damn thing I need to have to worry about is having my tunnel be completely worthless anyways!
