NCR Ranger Veterans "Chasing [Enclave] Ghosts" in Ba

Post » Fri Jun 10, 2011 8:44 pm

This would've been an interesting DLC, no? From the Vault:

Veteran Rangers are a special deployment of New California Republic rangers. In 2281, most of them are deployed in Baja under orders from President Kimball doing what Chief Hanlon describes as "chasing ghosts" (perhaps referring to Enclave remnants), but as the conflict with the Legion draws to its climix, they are slowly deployed to the Mojave to boost the NCR presence in the area. If you talk to some NCR Troopers, they sometimes will say "I heard the ranger vets are from Baja. I've never seen one before, but I heard they chew nails and spit napalm."

Or they could have been Nightkin?

Still, I am in the camp of "Enclave is a large shadow society, they should not be completely eradicated".

Im in the same camp.Id like to see the encleve play a larger role in the next game, only Id like them to be sort of like yes man, where its optional to join them/have them in the story.

And this sounds good.Id like a point lookout/honest hearts style dlc where we could exploar an are that was actualy nuked.Alas, they have already said there wont be more dlc. :sadvaultboy: But at least we are geting what we are.

Yea, we never got the oppurtunity to really side with the Enclave in Fallout 3, only be President Eden's undercover agent or whatever. Players were forced to work with the Brotherhood of Steel untill the end of Broken Steel. And even though you were working for Eden you still had to fight the Enclave.

I wouldnt mind a future fallout where we here reports that NCR has been under attack and is barely survivng from advanced power armoured soldiers. Pay back for the oil rig.

I would like to see the enclave back but not for a while and as the main antagonist of anything. They have had there major screen time, same with the BOS its now time for them to take there back bencher.

Also to the idea of the DLC it requires the user to be NCR friendly or netrual so could hamper some things

Not necessarily. You can team up with the Burned Man even if you're sided with the Legion. And why would it matter which faction you're with?

Or you can kill him,

main diffrence is Burned man isnt interested in the legion at the moment more in protecting Zion. NCR have a hate for the legion so if the DLC is there for the player to team up with NCR rangers, its a good idea but would need to be a more neutral faction for the player

Eh. We already have Remnants in the base game, why add more just for the sake of more Enclave? Also, I have a feeling that they are trying to keep the DLC locations either in another part of the Mojave or just outside of it (Zion, Death Valley), so Baja California is too far away to fit in with that pattern. In the context of the conversation, it is implied that it was a criticizing comment toward Kimball, as I think Hanlon wants the Rangers to be in the Mojave instead of "chasing ghosts", which means that they what they are doing in Baja is fruitless.

Besides, if anything like this were to be realized, it would be for another game, expecting DLC beyond OWB and LR is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

No he's right, that was nothing more than speculation (and it's since been removed). There's nothing in the game that even implies that Hanlon is talking about the Enclave when he mentions that they're "chasing ghosts down in Baja", he could be talking about anything.

No... I hope the issues in Baja will be the main point in Fallout 4, and I hope it involves Legion Frumentarri (or however they are spelled) stirring up a second front on their war on the NCR. I honestly doubt it has anything to do with the Legion, but I still have high hopes for Fallout 4.

You should never be able to side with the Enclave we know of, because you are not pure human. Only an Enclave with a slighgly ultered state of mind would be able to be sided with. I sure hope Bethesda has 0 Enclave in fo4. If anyone has you side with the Enclave that we know let it be Obsidian.

If Bethesda did it they would be crucified, but if Obsidian did it it would be ok, because of Chris Avellone. Bethesda isn t allowed to breath, but Obsidian could do what ever they want.

This is the feeling I get from most of the old fo game fans.

I honestly wouldn't mind more Enclave. More target practice for War and Ruin. :celebration:

In all seriousness though, if they got rid of this whole "Pure-Bred" idiology like certain members of another power armoured faction, the Enclave wouldn't be that bad. IMO anyway.

Possible they are indeed Enclave remnants. I'm positive we won't go there via DLC, however.

They should have done it, not presenting that half-assed "evil option" were you just accept to commit genocide for no reason ... sorry, to the contrary from what you been doing so far until that point.
Granted you COULD side with the Master but at least the Master PRESENTED a argument for his plan (Unity) that you could agree since it was never presented before as Eden was really ridding that your character was a idiot.

Presenting the Enclave BEFORE and making the character being allowed to work for then at least would allow the player (and the character) to get a idea of the people that made the Enclave and what they stood about, with the Legion you get Vulpes Inculta as a introduction that is non-hostile and presents the case of Nipton as Autumn is too busy NOT interacting with the player, threatening a character the game says he is very important to your character and then in the case you actually give him the Code he KILLS YOU.

Oh did I mention Autumn is supposed to be the "kind" part of the Enclave without the whole "genetic purity"? You know the guy you would supposedly be allied with for the Enclave to have any future?

but if Obsidian did it it would be ok, because of Chris Avellone.

No, because I serious doubt they would do something as it was done in Fallout 3 with the Enclave, in fact we have Caesar's Legion were you can actually join then and they present their case ... you can agree or not with their views.

Do you want to compare New Vegas Caeser Legion with Vulpes Inculta, Dead Sea, Aurelius of Phoenix and Caesar with Fallout 3 Autumn and Eden?

I could say New Vegas did MORE with the Enclave that Fallout 3 did because with the Remnants we had people, not plot devices for the obligatory evil option and for the obligatory boss battle.

Bethesda isn t allowed to breath, but Obsidian could do what ever they want.

This is the feeling I get from most of the old fo game fans.

In the this post I attempted to made the point to where Fallout 3 failed ... we got a organization that serves as cannon fodder for the player to get kool stuff and to be the antagonist of the game, that was it.
At what point would "joining the Enclave" in Fallout 3 would make sense? the story simply does not allow it and neither does the organization as depicted on the game.

Of course it seems that goes right over people head because, I guess, they are young and have not been ... well, jaded enough to realize a country is made of PEOPLE, they hear Eden's propaganda and ignore what happens in the game.

This is Bethesda fault, this is not Obsidian fault ... in the end from Bethesda come Fallout 3 that was a fine post-apocalyptic trekking simulator and from Obsidian come New Vegas that besides also being a fine post-apocalyptic trekking simulator, the story was not so afraid to introduce new elements as Fallout 3 was simply ... afraid to put anything that was not in Fallout 1 and 2 and ended up being what it was, a complete mess.

Also I am getting tired of so called "Fallout fans" attempting to insult the "old" Fallout fans because in one hand we have Fallout 3 and in the other Fallout New Vegas, the reason there is more trust in Obsidian is because with new Vegas THEY EARNED IT as even if Fallout 3 was not Oblivion with Guns (its a disservice to call it that, its not that bad) it certainly had plenty of faults, in fact I could say its a pity New Vegas does not have the Random Encounters system that Fallout 3 had.

And I am done with you.

Yea, that's the real issue I have with Fallout 3. Your character didnt have any good reason to help Eden. What was in it for him? Your story quickly didnt make any sense if you chose to be Eden's agent of death. My friend used to ask me "why are you always a good guy?" and I would always say "because the story works better that way." Yea, only pure bloods are in the Enclave but it doesnt mean they wouldnt accept help from an outsider. You wouldnt necessarily have to join the Enclave.

lol Im so hurt you are "done with me" Fo3 was the bomb, but Bethesda can not make a game where you can join the Enclave.

In Fo3 I thought it was stupid as well to even have Eden try to get you to put fev in the water.

Autum was too busy trying to gain control of the wasteland and purifier to let you force him to be your friend. He saw you as a major threat to his plans. After all he is stealing your dead parents lifes work.

What would have been really stupid (even more stupid than Eden) Is if it gave you the option to side with Autum. They came in and did a hostile take over tried to kill you, then shot an unarmed scientist dead to show they meant now. Your father at this point martys himself to save you and his lifes work.

A choice to side with Enclave would have been stupid, and I don t understand for the life of me why they put the fev thing in there at all.

It was a heartfelt linaer main story that grabbed me unlike the back pack a faction story of fo nv.

By chasing ghosts in baja, They mean "Chasing something that's not there" So it doesn't really matter if its enclave they didn't find anything.

The Enclave never had the man power to challenge the NCR directly. They'd be overwhelmed by the superior numbers. And adding insult to injury I'm betting the NCR and BoS would put aside there differences at least until the Enclave threat was eliminated.
And considering the loses they've suffered sense 2242, that wouldn't take long.

On this subject Rook I complelely agree. But technically you can side with the Enclave, your just executed immidiately after your usefulness is over.(which happens two seconds after you say 21:6).

Yes is it given that there isn't a single motivation to do so, it was there so that they could claim the ridiculous number of ending combinations that was released before the game - wasn't it something like 900?

Still, I am in the camp of "Enclave is a large shadow society, they should not be completely eradicated".

President Richardson:

{273}{prs54}{You could try, I suppose, but soon the staff of the Enclave and Navarro will be inoculated.}

Clearly in the wrong camp then; in any event you'd think a 'shadow society' would be small and selective given that they need to operate by dupliciting the American public and other members of the Federal Government; that's why they are a 'shadow government' because they aren't the actual government but secret usurpers whom pull the strings from behind. They have fantastic resources because they have the accumulated knowledge of the Federal Government and capital they stowed away before the war - how does this translate to very big? Unless the Enclave goes native and stops being the Enclave then they are dead, they cannot possibly have the numbers by this point to continue as a self-sustaining society; given their own bigotry and xenophobia it's not unlikely that they will pull a BoS or simply fall apart.

@OP, the ghosts aren't real; they are to show the NCR's incompetance and lack of prioritisation with their best troops.

Sometimes I think the devs knew that this was the case with the real US government and decided to put it in the game. The similarities are far closer than most people realize.
