NCR Supply Route in New Vegas

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:20 pm

I was just thinking about this when was thinking "What if the Caesar's Legion shift its offense south and trap NCR on Hoover Dam?".

Then I realize NCR have no supply line to speak of before the Battle of Hoover Dam.

Old Road via Goodspring lead to Radscorpion and Cazadors, before heading straight to Fiend Territory (assume the Khans isn't a problem).

I-15 still infested by DeathClaws.

More Radscorpion at Scorpion Gulch, if the prison is taken back.

More DeathClaws at Primm Pass.

Nipton was never recover after the Legion's raid.

Nipton didn't need to be recovered, the Legion didn't try holding it.

The deathclaws were apparently a recent infestation, so before that, the I-15 was, open road... (Is that a pun?)

Just proves that the Legion is incompetent. Or at least that's how they've been written.

Instead of going right for the hoover dam, your right the Legion should attack south where the NCR is at its weakest and is spread thin. Attack the trading post and the caravan station to the south and cut the NCR dry. With a war now on two fronts the dying NCR would no doubt be destroyed over time. The Ceaser Legion should re look its stradegy.

The Deathclaws are around because the quarry stopped blasting. The quarry shut down because of the Powder Ganger riot/escape and the resulting teams of scumbags across the wasteland. And the Powder Gangers busted out of prison a short time ago. Just from the way people talk and the way the Gangers are situated, I don't think it's been more than a couple of days. Maybe two weeks at the outside. So. The NCR *had* supply lines, and they got cut a short while ago.

It could be argued that Nipton was a sign that Caesar is now becoming aware of the situation and doing exactly as you suggest, pushing southward around the strongpoints focused at the dam.

The Legion is already in the south. That's where Cottonwood Cove is. They destroyed Camp Searchlight. But if they try surrounding Hoover Dam from that side, they'll end up having to stretch out (Cottonwood Cove is the only viable crossing down that way) and be taken by McCarren.

And keep in mind that by attempting to go through Camp Searchlight, they still need to deal with the heavy radiation, turrets, and all the soldiers they turned into ghouls.

Well, if their tactics involve running into my minigun wielding machetes and wearing football pads, them having a bad overall strategy isn't too surprising.

This x1000. I've yet to die at the hands of the CL, though that may change once I take on the Caesar and the Legate later.

Nothing a riot shotgun won't solve. Burst into the tent and make your first shot straight front, and the big cheese is a stain on the wall.

They have Nelson, overrun Forlen Hope then Hoover isn't exactly Hannibal passing through Alps

Forlorn Hope is the second most defended position after the Dam. Taking it isn't simple. Nelson won't get their troops across the river.

Forlorn Hope is down on supplies and troops. The Legion can send troop from down stream to Cottonwood Cove as well.

Seeing they have camp establish right next to Ranger station Charlie, I think they can get enough troops across the river.

The slaver camp near Charlie is not a full base. They can get troops across the river, but they're going to have a hell of a harder time assaulting locations from it than the NCR will have defending those same locations. The NCR have four full fledged bases in the area that are all well defended and can reinforce one another, despite Forlorn Hope's pitiful status. The Legion's only large base that's not at the other end of the Dam is all the way at Cottonwood and only has a shoddy raft for transport.

If the Legion tried organizing any assault from Cottonwood, the NCR would know about it years in advance. Cottonwood Cove is probably the weakest base in the entire region, given that it's completely surrounded by cliffs and the only way out is a single path uphill. If anyone's incompetent, it's the NCR for not wiping that little base out.

They simply cannot get "enough" troops across the river.

My point is that why didn't the Legion reinforce Nelson?

As far as the fighting over Hoover, Mccurran is out thanks to Fiends; and Golf could be assault by via Mead and where is this 4th fill fledged base?

Forlorn Hope, I even mentioned it by name in that sentence.

Nelson has largely the same problem Cottonwood Cove does. It's indefensible. It is the definition of the low ground.

Nelson's a strange set up. It's more like middle ground, no? It's higher ground than the valley/no man's land below, and perhaps on the same level as Forlorn Hope? But is itself surrounded by cliffs and the sort.

But Cottonwood Cove is a truly indefensible location. I was able to snipe all but two of the Legion garrison (as small as it was) from an elevated position. One was hiding in a tent, the other was out of view. And that was before I discovered the toxic waste hanging precariously over the whole site. There are two roads in, and both are uphill (from the Cove). For the NCR to not have taken earlier action was foolish, but then again, they are spread pretty thin and are solely focused on the damn dam.
