Near death experiences

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 7:51 pm

When I was younger me and few made used to do graffiti and we'd go anywhere around our local area.
Back when we did it the whole place made up 1 gang but sometime later it broke of into 2, me and my friends were part of neither though.
One day we went into one gangs side, and it turns out they found our stash of paint etc and when we returned to collect they had waited for us.
One of them ran up the hill to confront us but I knew him and that if we stood he would back down and maybe shout something from a distance but 2 of my friends ran leaving me and another, who was too terrified to move.
Because of this the guy was still confident with running up the hill towards us, he grapped me by the throat and punched me a few times, I didn't react because it was weak and the rest ofhis gang would back him up, but then he pulled out a knife and as I seen it appear I frenzied and overpowered him took the knife and slashed his leg with it, grapped my terrified friend and ran for it, hearing them shouting from behind us the adreniline was flowing fast and we were determined to escape.

We got away eventually when we spotted the rival gang, walked by them saying hi, all calm and whatnot, both gangs then noticed each other and since the rivial gang had a larger presence they chased the ones who were after us away. We got lucky....

End

I feel backwards off a pole and burst my head open, if I landed on the corner of the stair it could have cracked my skull or stabbed my brain
I pulled on the irons cable and it fell, whacking me on the head, when I was about 1.
Don't know if these two would count as near death but who knows, maybe my luck was in.

In a car crash when I was younger, in the 8th grade. Survived, barely, with relatively minor permanent damage.

Worst that has happened is a shelf falling down on me and the table infront of me while I was sitting next to it. Luckily, it didn't actually hit me, but I was close of getting pierced in the head by a nail.

Not near death, but more nearly fatal. Several years ago I was home alone and managed sliced open my left arm clear to the bone, missing my artery by less than an inch. The doctor said that he had never seen a worse injury that didn't do any major damage in his life. A few months of recovery and I was back to normal.

Lucky to still be alive and in one piece still.

Got clipped by shrapnel.. I found out the uncomfortable way svcking chest wounds are not something to be trifled with ..

I was clinically dead for just under three and a half minutes.

I'm not sure what happened to me, but I'm fundamentally different since and because of the experience. One that I really can't recall with any clarity if I'm honest about it.

I think I'm more introspective because of it, or as princess say, barking mad :P

Yeah, this. Every time I've ever seen a thread titled "near death experience," it's always filled with people talking about how they nearly died. That's not what the term means. It's about experiencing something while you're dead, i.e. you die for a few minutes and then they bring you back.

Ha, that always annoys me too. There was an article on cracked about NDEs, it might as well be called "people who had lucky escapes".

I guess I betray my childhood spent reading about the paranormal with these irritating niggles.

May I ask how you managed to slice open your arm?

May I ask how you managed to slice open your arm?

Hard to describe, but it has to do with an old style door with plate glass windows. Attempted to push the door open, but hit the glass instead. The glass shattered, slicing a three inch gash in my arm on the inside portion where the elbow is. One inch in any direction and I either wouldn't be alive, or I would now be right handed (I'm really left handed). There is a major nerve in that arm in the same area that I sliced myself.

I do consider myself lucky...especially since I was home alone in the basemant, and my apt was on the third floor. I left my belt upstairs so a Tourniquet wasn't an option, and my cellphone was upstairs as well, so 911 would have never been called; I'dve been dead from blood loss by the time I made halfway there. Like I said, lucky to be alive.

No real near death experience, but if we're also talking about times we almost/could of died...I was too young to remember, but I'm told I fell, rolled down a hill and fell into a pool when I was 2-ish.

Closest is almost drowning around the age of 7. (I guess I was that age, can't really remember.)

After reading this topic (and almost throwing up as a result) I can say must be extremely lucky. I've never really had anything bad happen to me, I've never even broken a bone...

Any one ever had any. i have had a couple, was born doa. then nearly choked to death as an infant when wrapped around in a blanket.

i don't really remember any thing significant from that time of course so i can't really say that i felt any changes after those experiences.

Hard to say really I kept having dreams as a kid that I was drowning then went to a pool one day. Some other kids kept messing with me and nearly drowned but was able to get out choking on a good bit of pool water. Scariest moment though happened to me this past year when I woke up with my heart racing out of control and I couldn't do anything about it. Did some minor training in Tae Kwon Do which allowed me to learn how to control my heart rate and those techniques weren't working. Luckily after 6hrs it went down back to normal and had some bad stomach issues.

Was scared to the point I went to my cardiologist who said everything was fine after doing an EKG on me. Turns out I probably had some nasty stomach virus that had an unusual affect on me causing me to react differently. Was probably fine all along however that was truly a scary moment for me since it felt like things were out of my hands and I couldn't do anything.

I fell off a longboard and broke my leg, luckily I landed in the grass. If I landed on the payment I would have a concussion or dead.

I was a premature baby so when I was born I fit in the palm of my fathers hand. They put me in an incubator for about 3 weeks and then I was okay. The doctor was very surprised at how a premature baby who should have died ended up being a 6'4 200lb 18 year old lol.

A more recent time happened about two years ago. I went on a walk with my friend to pick up some snacks and such but along the way he informed me he wanted to pick up something that I cannot mention on this forum. Basically we walked down a back lot that had no lights and happened to be along the busiest street around my neighborhood. My friend went and met the guy and for reasons unknown followed him into the woods, at that point a car peeled into the lot and two guys hopped out and just stood there. Then my friend came running out of the woods and my fight or flight reflexes didn't kick in because I actually recognized one of the guys from the car as my sisters current boyfriend. The guy from the woods came up and demanded by wallet and money and then pulled out a gun, at that point I was more so angry that I wouldn't get to smoke and also that the [censored] of a boyfriend let this happen. So I slowly took out my wallet, luckily I had no money in there, but this pissed off the fella and he put the gun to my head, again my adrenaline failed me and I heard a click. ( The bastard had forgotten to remove the safety) at that point they drove off taking only one item from me. It was later I realized that they had nabbed the proof of purchase for my Modern Warfare 2 preorder worth 60 bucks.).

When i went to pick up the game they had traded in my receipt for the cash, luckily I was friends with the manager and he said it was employee negligence not to check ID on the return so I got my copy anyway. It was pretty. I look back now and laugh but if that guy had been either a little crazier or a lot smarter I wouldve been a goner. Also I probably shouldve had some better instincts but then again I was just a bored 16 year old at the time. The whole thing about seeing your life flash before your eyes is pretty ludicrous, and actually I remained pretty calm the whole time. Only ended up with some bruised pride.

SNIP

So he actually tried to pull the trigger?
Over what? Some people make me so [censored] angry!? He was going to kill a 16 year old kid for having no money, [censored] that!

When I was snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, I was swimming over a coral/rock formation with my dad, and we were looking straight down and saw movement under the rocks etc, I duck-dived down to get a better look only see a 6 foot Grey Nurse shark barrel out of a hole straight at us - I can honestly say I closed my eyes and expected to be eaten or at least harmed, but it got stuck on some rocks and thrashed around a bit before it managed to free itself and swam off quickly.

Scariest. Moment. Ever.

I'd had a severe headache, nausea. vomiting. Sick as a dog. Light and noise were painful, was at the BF's house, he wouldn't turn down the music, (understandably it was his house)and I was in excruciating pain, so I went home. We were planning to attend a concert even in a few days, and I'd hoped to be feeling better. Went into work, took a dose of prescription sinus meds containing caffiene and mild narcotics, last thing I remember was saying good morning to a coworker named Donna. I woke up a day or so later in a strange room, with an IV. Extreme pain, not hungry or thirsty, went back to sleep. Doctor showed up later, informed me that I had, according to coworkers, collapsed faceforward onto the desk. EMT's recorded my blood pressure at 50/40. I in fact, had a bacterial form of meningitis. IV meds and rest, boyfriend showed up some time later, apologizing profusely. TBQH, I didn't want to see him. I had him give the tickets to mutual friends, felt kinda bad about not being able to use them. Got out a week later, and was on meds for quite some time afterward. Close call.

Woke up in hospital, in extreme pain, every muscle fiber in my body was on fire, and I had been injected with glucose syrup. I had gone into violent, hypoglyclemc eleptiform convulsions due to low blood sugar. My heart went in ventricular defibrillation. I was told later on that my heart had stopped for several minutes, and flatlined. I was given the paddles/shock to restore sinus rhythm, doctor was very insistent that I be resuscitated. Lucky for me, I suppose! Wrote him thank you notes afterwards. I would not be here if not for him.

Woke up in hospital after deliberate overdose of insulin. I was at the time, at a very low point in life, trying to resolve being collateral damage to the human capability for violence. I owe my life to a man, a friend who was infatuated with me. Although we later attempted a relationship, which failed, due to numerous issues on both partners, I never confessed to him that it was his call that alerted my roommate to my prescence in the bathtub. If it were not for his call, I would not be here, not have married, and had children. It bothers me sometimes.
