nearing perfection

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 8:42 am

It's established scientific fact that the closer we get to a perfect imitation of reality, the more the errors in that perfection show up. This is why Bugs Bunny doesn't look anything like a rabbit when you look at him, but know that he is... but a computer sim of a rabbit looks aweful. The computer sim is closer to reality, but the fact that it's close makes it easier to see why it's not really a rabbit. Same effect is in play here. Skyrim is getting closer to reality and we're seeing the faults in it exagerated because we want it to be that much better. It's not guys... it's just not going to be. So quit focusing on the negatives and sit back and enjoy what you've got... a game.

wisdom?

That's one way of putting it

well.. nobody did complain about morrowind not being photorealistic back in the day.. but it's still a pretty stupid thing to say. There are so many things wrong with skyrim and to say that it's even near perfect is just.. criminal!

You misquote me... I said nearing... not near. But you illustrate my point. It's easier to find fault in Skyrim than it is to find fault in Morrowind because Skyrim is trying to be closer to "real" than Morrowind was.

So this logic covers graphic bugs.

I agree.

It doesn't say anything about the other hundreds of bugs.

I can't even finish the MQ. Is that because the game is, "nearing perfection"?

I don't think Skyrim is anywhere near the uncanny valley. Nor do I think its nearing perfection. We see the errors because we expect the most from that which we love, leading up to Skyrim each and every person built up in their own mind what they wanted and expected from the game, when it didn't deliver, some got pissed, some were disappointed, some took it in stride and loved it for what it is, not lamented what they thought it should have been.

No. It's just easier to fault a game that has so many freaking bugs that it's unplayable. And Bugs Bunny and his ilk were wiped out by computers, since it's cheaper to pay a few people to animate some mesh with textures, than it is to draw hundreds of frames by hand. That's also why we have reality TV shows. Who needs to hire writers to write interesting stories and dialogue, when we can just have people acting naturally... like idiots. It's called "dumbing down" for a reason.

im happy skyrim is definitly better than super metroid
when we make a game that imitates reality, we will have a very very boring game that will last years before anything interesting happens
