Necromancers - WHERE?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:56 pm

My character is a mage who has a backstory of despising necromancers and 'black magic'. I've finished the College questline and am looking for things to do... are there any good areas for me to cleanse of necromancy and black magic? Or even better any quests that let me do so?

You could do the Meridia Daedric Quest. It involves killing a necromancer who has corrupted some Imperial soldier's souls.
The sword you get at the end of the quest burns 10 points and can cause a fiery explosion upon the death of an undead enemy.

There's a quest (in the Rift I think, but I might be wrong) that you get after finding a tomb. You will find a man at the enterance and he will ask you to help him kill a necromancer who's been doing experiments on his dead relatives. I haven't done the quest yet, but seen it in a playthrough.

I've run into quite a few necromancers while playing. It just takes looking around. It certainly isn't much of a focus in the game though.

If you want to see more necromancers, start doing a bit of conjuring.

The way the AI works in creating random encounters is to base the encounters roughly on what your character has recently done....for example, some time back I switched my character from a pure one-handed melee build to a shield and spell character...after a while, I started coming across mages who were armed with shields and spells. I also did a lot of conjuring up familiars, and as a result started to come across a lot of necromancers.

It does have some funny side effects though...drink mead and ale often, and you come across p*ssed idiots and revellers a lot more frequently.

That's funny, I had no idea it worked like that. Sounds like it might be difficult for somebody to run into a lot of necromancers without being a necromancer themselves, though.

There's a good story in Dawnstar I think that starts with a man whose wife ran away and a similar one involving townsfolk from Winterhold (or could of be Dawnstar again) going missing. Both involve necromancers. There's quite a lot I can recall now and think I could spend a while naming them, so I'll just say go out there and explore. :)

Wow many thanks for the replies. That's really interesting about your actions affecting your random encounters... I always seem to encounter inept mages looking to practice wards with me or in possession of a staff of zombies with my mage character. I'll look into these necromancer suggestions.

But any other kinds of evil to root out? I realise how odd my question is and how annoying I must be getting by now (sorry!) but I really love this mage character and I want to keep playing her. I'm not going to stop roleplaying (so no companions TG DB lol) so I really need evil sorcerors, necromancers, generally bad people to slay!

Go find all the Dragon Priest masks. They're definitely evil and some masks you get are quite good for mages. And speak to the steward in Solitude if you haven't already. And... :D

Thalmor. KIll the Thalmor in the wilderness, take their valuable loot, and leave their bodies to the elements. The Thalmor are about as evil as you can get. The comparisons to the SS are not without merit.

That said, the Companions might not be a bad way to go, except that you're a mage and not a warrior-type.

There are quite a few draugr dungeons around - those are always good, and if you have good Restoration skills you can focus on combatting the undead. Vampires will show up if they haven't already, and there's one minor quest revolving around vampires at least.

Hell, if you wanna rid the world of some kind of evil, try and hunt down the DB and kill as many of them as you can. Ditto for the thieves' guild; they're turning Riften into a corrupt city.

There are quite a few necromancers patrolling Skyrim's expanses.

God help me, I can't remember the name of the quest, but there is a rather nefarious Necromancer somewhere that has been trapping adventurers by luring them into the promise of opening a rather large chest.

If you succeed in finding this, its a pretty macabre story.

Believe its one of the side quests, not a Radiant or Daedric.

lol

I just ran across him the other evening. I'm not even sure if he's a necromancer. He just struck me as a mage that liked killing people, and trapped victims to toy with.

Yes, this is a mage that you love to hate. Probably should be in necromancer clothes. An interesting mini-quest to say the least ...

I can't remember the name of the place but know it's north-western Wihterun. There's a pass behind it that leads into Hjaalmarch.

Ranveig's Fast I believe, with Sid the Warlock? Oh he tasted some fiery death when he trapped me in his cage...

If you really want to upset the Thalmor, go hide up near their embassy, and stormcall...

I had a mega battle with 6 or 7 Thalmor soldiers and 3 of their mages after doing that a few times...it definitely upsets them.

Become Thane of Solitude - and do the "Man who cried wolf" and "The Wolf Queen Awakened" - lots of necromancers to kill there.

Nay, this is another one. It's a barrow, without Hagravens. I know that the man says his aunt went inside, and that he wants to find her.
Spoiler
He does... but not as he expected to find her.
I feel annoyed for not being able to remember the name of the quest or the man for the life of me.

Yesterday I found a great book about necromancers,
Spoiler
called "The Exodus" @ Stendarr's Beacon - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Stendarr%27s_Beacon
, the outcome of the story reminds me of tales from Edgar Allan Poe.
