at 90 sill in a magic type you speak to the mage in the college for that type and you get a special quest that gives you special spells. Best way to play a mage, is use every spell you have. To many people stick to one class and have a tough time of it later on as the other spells are not upgrade to keep them effective.

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_Thrall is a master level spell. Lexandro explained how to get it.
There are perks to increase potency of undead minions, however the ability to keep them indefinitely is only available in the spell Dead Thrall.
They last until they die or are released. And they don't turn to ash like after the normal raise dead spells. So you can raise them again at your leisure.

And also best way to be a mage is to put 80% of your perks into a magic class that'll be sure to save your life. Since robes have no armor rating at all you can either go for alteration for armor and the perks mage armor - or you can focus on killing enemies before they kill you with destruction. OR you can TRY to sneak and be out of the way as you try to conjure up atronachs (NOT ZOMBIES) and try to conjure up something that you can cast further than 3 feet away. Like the flaming familiar is a flaming dog that you can cast half across the room (large room) and it explodes after it's dead.

But remember that when you're a mage you have to devote almost all of your perks into mage skills - unlike if you're a warrior you only need a top of 10 perks into one-handed for the best possible effects.

P.S. - for strategy notes you can use Alteration for Mage Armor 0/3 perks, and you can also go into Restoration for magicka regen perks (0/2 I think for 25% faster regen). And I think Illusion has a perk for completely silent casts so you can pretty much sneak up on any enemy and cast a spell without alarming anyone else (although I don't think you get a sneak attack bonus).

I decided to invest in the perks to get the silent casting, and it turned out to be really useful for my conjurer.
It keeps the enemies from detecting a sneaking player when he/she summons creatures from in hiding.
If the enemies kill the summoned creature, then they'll just do a quick look around and then return to their posts.

Lol I wish I could work on that but I'm already level 54 and it'd take way to long to be able to get anything into that skill tree :( I just almost maxed out Destruction (minus 2/2 frost dmg and the dual casting perk for making them stumble since I don't like dual casting perk at al lreally)

It's pretty cool in a sneaky mage kind of way. But it's also a slow process as summons can sometimes die real fast. One room I did I had to summon 6-7 times just to kill 3 people. :sadvaultboy:

Now that I think about it, 6-7 times is probably when I stopped counting. It took a lot of summons. Some mage just kept slaughtering my frost atronach in mere seconds.

Eh I remember trying to fight a Draugr Deathlord with just summoning Dremora Lords and the Deathlord kept killing them with 1 arrow. And I was out of potions and magicka so I had no other option really but to switch to destruction and blade. :( But then Dremora Lord has no perks to help it because perks only help zombies and atronachs unfortunately. (excluding bound weapons)

Yeah, it can be really frustrating just relying on summons to kill baddies. Is good to branch out what spells the mage has just in case, as you said earlier.

Another conjurer tip for players, is that you can push a summoned creature into a room to get the enemies attention. If you have http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Command_Daedra you can use that to make the summon stagger pretty far away from you without affecting the summon.

I don't really understand the point of the perks for controlling or manipulating Daedra because there are so very few in the game to start out with. You only actually see them in Daedric quests, and still it's rare.

The Command Daedra spell and perks that affect daedra refer to any summoned being.
Atronachs for example are daedra just like the dremora are, but they are elemental based beings.

1 One thing that helps is using Bound Bow and spending perks on Mythic binding and archery. It's nice to thin the herd a little before sending in your Atranoch.

2 Keep a close eye on your Magicka, the Conjuration spells can be pretty expensive. Cast your biggest baddest summon, and the use Bound Bow or Bound Sword while your Magicka regenerates.

3 Don't be afraid to run away while your summon fights for you, especially if you spent most of your level ups on Magicka instead of Health.

4 Mage armor is a good idea. Spare some perk points for Alteration.

5 You can spam Conjuere Familiar or Flame Atranoch without dipping too low on the Magicka. This causes mass confustion and helps keep enemies from going after you while you heal or escape.

6 Unlock Dremora Lord ASAP!!! He's the world's best bodyguard!

7 If you are in tight quarters, cast your summon behind you so it doesen't accidentally block your path.

8 Using Healing Hands on your summon during battle is a good way to level restoration. Just be sure to keep your summon between you and the enemy. Works great with Frost Atranoch - he's like a frakin wall!

9 Don't skimp on destruction! AOE elemental spells plus corresponding Atranoch is a huge win! Example:
Two Frost Thralls + Frost Cloak + Blizzard = virtual invincibility. Enemies are dead before they can get within reach!

Elemental destruction spells can keep elemental summons alive longer?! :o

No, they're just immune to the damage. So you can use the destruction spell and it will harm enemies but not your Atranoch.
For example, if I have a Deathlord running at me ready to one-shot me with his Ebony Battleaxe, I can cas Blizzard and the frost damage slows him down a LOT... While he's slow and drained of stamina the Frost Atranochs start whomping on him. Then I can spam Ice storm on him without hurting them.

Ohhhh, I see. I wonder if the Storm atronach is immune to that shout that causes thunderstorms.
I want to test it out later, as I don't have high destruction magic to use any AOE destruction spells.

Krotem, right now my character is using a Bound Bow for physical attacks, and it is working well.
So making a conjurer with sword/bow is good, you just need to invest in more skill trees, as even bound weapons depend on the weapon skill level and perks rather than conjuration level.
You might like the bound bow, as all archery perks apply to it (except for the collecting arrows perk). The zoom/slow time archery perk is good.

Yes. Weapon perks and enchantments for +damage% to a weapon type all work with the appropriate bound weapon.

Bound weapons damage is determined by the same things that would affect regular weapons damage.
As far as I know conjuration level only affects the magicka needed to summon a bound weapon. Everything else about a bound weapon is treated like a real one.
