Need Help Role Playing

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:33 am

Race: Altmer

Looks: Looks very dark and evil

Specialty: Destruction and Conjuration

Secondary: Restoration/Alteration

I need help role playing! Now I know I'm being dependent, but can someone help think of a backstory and cause for this High Elf! Maybe a Purpose he has

Any ideas would be appreciated, I'm not that good at this RP stuff

Considering he looks very evil, it would be kindof hypocritical if I made him look like a dark character but made him act like a good character.

The Thalmor usurped the rightful Kings and Queens of Summerset. You could be a displaced noble, hunted by the Thalmor for 'racial impurity', i.e. disagreeing with them. Being an Altmer noble certainly agrees with the preponderance of magical skills you have chosen.

You could always be a Thalmor sympathizer. That's about as evil as High Elves can get.

First of all your character needs a personality. A story is a empty shell if your character is lifeless. Think of foods that he might favor, wines or mead? I would think a high elf would love wine. Racism. Yes it exists in Skyrim and high elves feel they are superior over most other races and look down upon the lot of them. Why are you in Skyrim? Maybe you came to help the Imperials drive out the storm cloaks, or maybe you came to help the storm cloaks defeat the empire because doing so would cripple both sides making it easier for the aldmeri dominion to take over. Think divide and conquer. What are some habits your character might have? Both good and bad. Maybe he has a habit of picking up lose things when people aren't looking, another habit could be that he likes to collect a certain type of item.

It is really hard for us to give your character a story but I hope that will help give you ideas to start rolling out with some creative things you can add to your character. When you start making your character feel m ore alive I find that it is much easier to come up with a story.

Ah, a Thalmor traitor? Nice Idea!

I think I might actually just pick that, but now that the backstory is covered.

What should my purpose be? Since I'm basically a necromancer...any ideas?

I know I was being brief, that what I was originally doing...Joined the stormcloaks so that if they win, the Thalmor could easily come in and take over. But the lack of content for the Thalmor kind of prohibits me to do so.

Remember necromancy isn't considered all that evil, it's just another fact of life on Nirn. You can be arrogant, unfriendly and raise dead bodies, that's just another Altmer in these parts.
Purpose can be anything you like. I had an Oblivion character whose purpose was hunting down bottles of vintage 399.

You seem to like the Thalmor traitor idea. I would think you escaped to Skyrim because it is a harsh land and you knew the Thalmor would have trouble tracking you there. You could completely just avoid doing the civil war quests, maybe even the main quest and just explore and avoid Thalmor patrols at all costs. Are you on the PC or a console? There is a great mod called Live Another Life that lets you start off as your character without having to do the intro to the main quest. Adds much more immersion into the game IMO.

I made a High Elf, that was actually a Dremora Lord. He was cast out of Oblivion by Mehrunes Dagon, for giving away the sigil stone. Sound familiar? He was truly "less than pleased".

The DL was cast into the mortal world for his punishment. Thus must complete a pilgrimage and appease each of the Daedric Princes before he is allowed back into the planes of Oblivion. It get a lot deeper but you get the idea.

Sure it could be. I played a merchant in Skyrim. Came on boat to take advantage of the economy during the war time. Specialized in black smithing since that is what is most likely going to be in high demand during a war. Also took up enchanting to make his gear better and alchemy because that would also be useful during war times. He relied heavily upon speech and some magic to help heal himself, charm others and get out of dangerous situations without having to fight. In fact he never once fought in a battle. It was pretty fun playing something that was different from the typical bash and smash that most of my characters were turning out to be. The fact that he was weak and had no physical prowess meant the world was a more dangerous and scary place then it was with any other character I played with. And of course he always had a companion who took care of him, since I would figure any sane merchant is such a harsh and hostile place would hire a body guard.

This was the backstory for my Altmer. Undercover for the Thalmor, sowing discord whereever he went. Then he got attacked by some Thalmor for no apparant reason. Plus, the Jarl of Whiterun and some other Skyrim folk were nicer to him then he expected, so he is having second thoughts about his Thalmor alliegences.

They could be doing it just to keep up guise that you are really not a spy, since I would expect any elf helping the stormcloaks to be looked at as a spy. Though it wouldn't make sense that they would go as far as shedding the blood of their own kin to prove that. On my first playthrough I had decided to make a Imperial who was akin to a "paladin" class so naturally I felt he would join the empire. However after almost losing his head just because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time I had trouble putting my faith into a empire that would kill innocent people without conviction. Plus I really don't see Nords as that bad. Its not like they are genocidal, they just want religious freedom and are willing to do what ever it takes even if it means driving out the elves who would imprison them for such and the empire that supports them. I would think the nords would welcome anyone with open arms who helped in their cause to bring Skyrim back under the rule of its rightful owners. Even though the militant side of my Paladin sees that as a bad move. Since the treaty isn't really going to last. I think the empire and Aldmeri Dominion are in more of a cold war then they are in a peaceful time.

This is what I'm leaning to:

A well respected High Elf part of the Dominion committed a crime by mistake against the Thalmor. He is now considered a traitor.

Since then, he changed his looks, got caught by the empire crossing the border, and was sent to death.

Since the Dragon attack, the Altmer's main focus is to gain the respect of the Thalmor again from his actions.
