Need Higher Difficulty - Mod Recommendations?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:26 am

I like the game, am at lvl 14 now and with unarmed, it's way too easy. Can kill most things with 3-4 hits. Companion just kills things in the wasteland randomly for me and I get xp. I have 50 stimpaks now... and unlimited gold of course (well, a lot if I sold things).

So I am playing with IWS (med) mod and also slower leveling by 25%. What I think I need at this point is just a mod that increases my opponents hp by 50% or more. Is there a mod like that? I couldn't find one in the search and would like a recommendation. Just too easy at this point and I'm starting to get bored. Alternatively, if their DT or DR went up, that might do the trick.

Thanks.

Agree - it's much better to increase the difficulty overall then to change the HP of enemies. I did that before with XFO more HP and it didn't work out the way I thought it would (no more sneak kills and generaly longer battles without more fun). Although the XFO +Hit HIGH for the enemies might also be interesting for you. Increase the games difficulty tenfold.

Try Arwen's mod with Mediums IWS Spawns and try to take on Primm when you're not ready (< lvl 8) - the Fatigue Damage from the dynamites is enough to knock you down. And most other improvements really help you to feel like you are not an almighty god. Arwens also has a scaleable XP mod which might help you with too fast leveling.

Haf fun :)

Agreed. There's a slew of changes that even out the playing field and some nice AI-tweaks for enemies.

More spawns is always my favorite way to raise difficulty, the first time I played FO3 was on the xBox, I found it really immersion breaking when a human enemy could take two magazines worth of ammo to the face. It was never so jarring to immersion against giant mutant creatures and supermutants though (mostly because they're giant and mutated... heh).

I agree with your line of thinking. Yesterday I added the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38623. They don't respawn, thank goodness but there are a lot more good and bad guys in the wasteland now. More Powder Gangers and more Legion, that's for sure! Last night I had forgotten I had added the mod and was heading on over to the prison and I must have killed 10 - 15 more gangers between Primm and the prison! If you like Meyers for sheriff, I would advise being careful with this mod though. It will put around 10 more gangers in Primm itself and they will all cluster around him, he dies within seconds. But when I attacked the prison it was endless, so many bodies, so much stuff to collect! So much more XP!

The hardcoe module from Arwen's Realism Tweaks should be out very soon, that'll make the game quite a bit more difficult. :)

I use a combination of Realistic Weapon Damage, XFO tweaks, Puce Moose Balance Center (for fall damage and slower backpedaling), and Increased Wasteland Spawns - Medium. Primm was ridiculous the first time I went in (in a good way). Probably the most fun I've ever had in NV clearing it out, though. Enemies die in one or two well placed shots, sometimes a few more but it is much more realistic... finding cover is so important and using tactics is even more important.

I've been using Increased Wasteland Spawns, mostly because of the high spawns option and that it adds to creatures as well, This morning I was ambushed by about 10 Feral Ghouls, just outside of Primm, for my level 3 sniper character whose only close range weapon was a silenced 22 it was hectic. Actually I used up most of my ammo in that fight, which reminds me of my other favorite way to raise difficulty, less loot and reduced wealth (check out harder core - http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35715). I think slowly being worn down by each fight is a lot better, when you weren't accurate enough in that last fight and wasted all the ammo for your favorite gun, or when you let that enemy get to close and he gives you a concussion, it makes you that much more attention in your next encounter and there's always plenty more of them around he corner.

Yeah, I switched from Populated Wasteland to the IWS also, much better, seems the newest patch broke the Populated Wasteland. :(

Well that's interesting to know, I just dl'd populated wasteland yesterday, but have yet to install it.

BTW: I have been enjoying IWS since release, While it's no MMM, but at least it's something...And it's beginning to look like we won't be seeing MMM for New Vegas...i hope I'm wrong though.

trying XFO with IWS...... had used XFO with FO3 and thought it was good. Although i like FONV much more than FO3.

I also use a 25% faster speed - makes the FPS part of the game a little better even if it stresses my computer.

Have you tried exp reducing mod? It wont help with your current game, but next time around, the slower leveling can make things really interesting.

As some others have, I can't recommend Arwen's Realism Tweaks enough. It really makes hardcoe Mode, well, hardcoe. And 1.7's inclusion of Arwen's hardcoe Module will make it even better than it already is.

Other than that, I can't wait to see how Project Nevada will turn out.

if you're looking for more than just combat difficulty, ART is the way to go. specially with hardcoe coming you have to worry not just about the combat moments but preparing for and recovering from it. Though i myself am using XFO's (albeit heavily personalized) accuracy changes, non static damage, and rarity modules (to be replaced by ART's hardcoe when it arrives).

There's also http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35715, though I haven't used. Looks good from the description anyway.
