i need more info on brink character upgrades

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:29 pm

I know the main 4 character types medic, soldier, engineer, operative, but when i select a class will i have a different customization look from the other classes? (for example could my medic be skinny in appearance and when i select soldier he is heavily built and wearing different clothing and stuff)?
can i spread my xp that i have accumulated around so that i can make one character class like a medic take on an engineering task as well as healing?
can i have several different character customisations for the one class on my profile ? for example could i have a light, medium ,and heavy solider that i could select from my own customisations to complete a certain task?
is it true that you have 10 character slots for one game profile?
can you subtract xp from a character class ( operative) and add it to another class (engineer)?

Classes don't affect your looks at all.

All they do is change your gloves.

Ok, really hard to understand what you are saying. I will try and answer your questions.

Appearance is not tied to class, but character.

You set up your characters appearance when you create him. You can change his clothes in between matches when you feel like it. Your body type, which has gameplay ramifications, can also be changed in between matches.

Your class, does not change your appearance. This you can change whenever you want during a match at a command post.

Yes, but not during a match.

This also means you cannot customize thier character's looks or bodytype during a match.

i think you may be a bit confused about xp.

while in a match you earn XP for doing things your team needs, killing, building, destroying, all that good stuff. XP is NOT tied to class. You can play medic for 10 minutes then play engineer, but you still have all your xp from your work as a medic.
Your XP builds up and you can spend it on upgrades and attachments for your character. You can then sell back the attachments/upgrades and get back XP.
I think(not positive but i recall hearing it somewhere) XP is interchangeable between your different characters, so you can play with one character and buy attachments for another without even playing with him.

hope that clears things up a bit :goodjob:

so am i right in saying that what you mean is if i have enough xp to select any body type (skinny, medium, heavy) when i feel like it i simply select another class type that i want to complete a task. i can then select if he will be skinny ,medium, heavy, but he will carry on the same look that i have created for my character (the same hairstyle, clothes, tatoos, etc) no matter if its a medic, engineer, soldier, etc. he will always have the same guise unless i change it in the main menu screen to something else that i have unlocked.

Ok, some clairifications since some of what Gamma said is old info.

You make a character. That characters level, and xp are tied to that character(not class). Everytime you level you get a point to buy an ability.

Abilities come in 4 categories. General, Operative, Soldier, Medic and Engineer. Theres no requirements(that we know of) stating that you have to take abilities from a certain class or a limit to how many per class. The only limit is rank. At every 4 levels you will attain a new rank. You can only buy abilities from the rank you are an lower. Thus to get a rank 3 ability, you have to be level 10-14.

General abilities work all the time. Abilities for a certain class only work when you are playing that class with that character. So you could specialize in Operative, or take abilities from every class. Depends on how you want to play.

There is no "build" per class. Just your character build. If you want to make a character that is all out operative and then make another character that is all out engineer that is fine. You will just need to level 2 characters. Also on your "operative" guy, you can play the other classes as well, you just won't have extra abilities.

Xp trading is out. You can however respec. By dropping a level, you get all your ability points back to re-spend. Thus if your level 20, you can drop to 19 and get 19 points to by abilities with.

Again, body type can be changed between matches. Your character is never tied to his body size.

You seem to have the outfit and bodytpe info down. You make your characters look. Regardless of what body size, or class you are, thats his look. The only difference is your backpack will change for classes, and you'll just look fatter and skinner for the body types(ignoreing the gameplay changes they have)

thanks for that clarification and sorry for out of date info. Haven't been following this as much as i should have maybe :)

not to sure about buying body classes with the XP. Heavy and light's become unlocked at lvl 5 and 7 respectively and i imagine you dont have to "pay" for them, you can just pick and choose whichever when ever suits you.
what you said about the guise being the same no matter the class is correct:)
guessing your new so have a turtle :) :turtle:

I'd imagine this is different based on what platform you are using.

Voice, by default, is turned off. If you create a fireteam, it is turned on for those people. There might be a simple option to have it on at all time. It could also be a server or game option.
