There are a couple things missing from the Imperials: the stereotypical Imperial English accent that they used to use for all Romans, and a decent emperor. Well they are an occupied nation now. If you play through as an Imperial and have a house in Riften, you need to understand that the Thalmor will then be in your town. Do you want that?
Obviously I'm a stormcloak. I played through as a Stormcloak. About the only significant thing I've seen in the towns is that people have mentioned that the stormcloak soldiers that take over for the city guards don't bathe as frequently, otherwise things are relatively the same. Do you want smelly guards?
Of course, in keeping with tradition, given the weather conditions bathing? You might catch your death of cold. Especially if you're not a Nord. Non-Nords will probably smell pretty bad.
Honestly I don't think by the time TES VI comes out it's going to matter anyway. All this arguing and speculation about which one is better for opposing the Thalmor is going to be irrelevant. The Dovahkiin is going to go down as a footnote in a book about the fall of the Empire regardless of who wins the civil war. The book will be by M'aiq the Liar and speak of the events and of this dragonslayer he met in his travels in the cold land of Skyrim while looking for a warm place to sleep. Some of it will be true. Some of it will be lies. M'aiq reports. You decide.
