I need a recommendation on a mini displayport to display por

I have a Dell U2410 monitor with a displayport connection and an AMD Radeon 6950 with a mini displayport connection. My monitor came with a standard displayport to displayport cable so I mini displayport (male) to displayport (male) dongle would work, but I don't know if it would be the best option.

Right now I am using a HDMI connection and it is having display issues where it will flicker occasionally (maybe once every 10 minutes or so). It almost seems like you can see it refreshing. Also I believe its having HDCP handshaking issues. My monitor will go blank (no signal) for few seconds then restore the connection. This usually happens while playing games, but has happened while watching a Blu-ray movie which of course caused the movie player to stop working (your display environment does not support protected content) until I rebooted.

I need to know whether I should purchase a mini displayport (male) to displayport (male) cable or a mini displayport (male) to displayport (female) dongle. Also which brands do you recommend. I know certain dongles carry AMD Eyefinity certifications, but cables don't seem to.

Maybe I am looking at this in the wrong way. It could simply be a driver issue. I am using Catalyst 12.3. Also would having the HDMI audio device disabled cause any issues.

Do you plan on doing eyefinity at any time?

Then you will need at least one active adapter to go from MDP-DP.

If not then I guess any cable will work, but I personally have had no experience with a MDP to DP cable, I too use HDMi and get the screen flicker when Idle. Otherwise its fine in games and movies and such.
Only when I am idle on the desktop do I get the flicker.

I have no idea of MDP carries sound, that's why I use HDMI.

I most likely won't be using multiple monitors. AFAIK you only need active adapter when not using displayport and have more than 2 monitors.

I guess its reassuring that I am not only one with screen flickering on HDMI.

I don't require sound via HDMI. I use a PCI based soundcard, but I was wondering if have the HDMI based audio driver disable would cause issues with HDCP handshaking or something to that affect.

edit: I don't remember having flickering/no signal issues with when using a DVI to HDMI dongle (came with a Radeon 4870X2, most likely passive). Of course that was a different graphics card. I guess that would rule out issues with the HDMI connection on the monitor.
