I wouldn't consider anyone the best to marry. Just pick someone you like because once your married your stuck with them and cannot remarry. For houses I'd say solitude is good but some say it's a little big. Riften is small but it had advantages, you can enter it through skyrim or Riften. Windhelm I think offers the best storage and it's easy to get around. I think the breezehome in Whiterun should be everyone's first home. It's a good started home and it's cheap. Later in the game you can choose somewhere else and spend more money. Money is not an issue later on. I have bought everything I would ever want and I own almost every home. I currently have a 100,000 dollars and total I have had 1,000,000 throughout the whole game.

If your looking for a free home go to the mages college in winterhold. You get a free room and storage when you start and when you finish you get a really cool looking room that has an alchemy table and enchanting table. It also has a garden in the middle which looks awesome. Plus being at the college has huge benifits because of all the merchants.

So my advice is buy the breezehome or get the free rooms at the college.

Also I'm not sure if every wife/husband is like this but I married Camilla from riverwood and she can sell and buy stuff to me and everyday I get 200$ from store profits. If you marry someone and sleep in your bed you get something called lovers comfort which allows you to learn all skills faster. I am not sure if is stackable with standing stones but it's pretty nice for leveling up. Good luck.

1. The best followers are usually housecarls as they can reach the highest level. Apart from that, all marriage candidates are roughly the same, although some allow you to live in their houses, so you don't need to buy your own.
2. Honeyside in Riften is the cheapest house that has both an Alchemist's Table and an Enchanter's Table, though Breezehome in Whiterun has the advantage of being closer to most shops.

Actually I like the Windhelm home the best. Solitude house svcks IMO. Breezehome is a good starter house. and Honeyside is a great second home -- I like this one for it's enchanting and proximity to smith, but I don't like the lack of storage for ingredients for the alchemy lab. Note about the College of Winterhold -- other mages can and will borrow your stuff.

I like wandering, so I am trying to get housing in as many regions as possible. I have College room in Winterhold, I own in Riften and in Whiterun. i do not trust the Dark Brotherhood enough yet to leave my stuff there.

I have not married, but i am sort of bonded to Lydia. She has my klutz gene and is sarcastic in her humour. there may be others whom are better, but I have not tried them as followers yet.

there are many other threads to read for the married question. Try to get as many places safe to stash kit as possible.

I bought 4 homes I believe, my fav was Markarth's home I think.

I never got the on in windhelm, I've heard thats one of the better ones as well.

Solitude is great if you have septims to blow.

my fav follower is lydia so far, I had Janessa (dark elf in whiterun) for awhile but she was boring.

I married the sister of the guy who owns the riverwood trader, not sure why, hoped it got me more discounts/better prices haha.

This.

It is all subjective. I don't understand how people don't see this

Breezehome is centrally located, so it's very convenient. I find myself assigning roles to different houses, though. Breezehome is my smithing station, as Warmaidens is right next door. Honeyside is my favorite house. The overall design is quite nice. It's where I do alchemy, as there's a shop nearby and I have my own herb garden. Solitude... well, I tend to do enchanting there, no particular reason. I only like the basemant and the upstairs bedroom. Markarth is okay, but far away, as is Solitude. Forget Winterhold, and Windhelm has a big, inefficient house that isn't close to anything. Well, if you are high in the TG, Niranye is a good vendor to know, but that's it.

I'm currently remodeling Breezehome. I've already given Lydia a chair of her own in her room, which she's delighted with, lol.

As for marriage, I recommend a stay-at-home type. Then choose a follower (if desired) that matches your play-style to take on journeys.
