I need some help with avoiding the main questline.

I always end up being Dragonborn even when I don't want to.
It is because I always want to clear my quest journal, and in Riverwood i am asked to bring guards which always leads to this quest to visit the grey-beards.
I could just ignore them and never do that, but then Riverwood has no defence...which just does not feel right to such a nice village.
So yes...help?

Riverwood doesn't need guards, they have Sven, so they will be fine.

wanting to clear your quest journal but also wanting to ignore the Main Quest, isn't possible unless you're on PC and mod the game...

Yeah I thought so to, maybe I just need to learn to not give a crap about what my journal says.
And I will get pc soon and then I will buy the pc version. I will then download the ''live another life'' mod which allows me to get a different start if I want to. (such as starting as an inn worker)

Eeeh, and I guess there is nothing wrong with an Argonian Dragonborn.

Invent a backstory for your character that gives them something to do after they escape Helgen that is more of an imperative to them than going to Whiterun to tell the Jarl about the dragon attack.

*shrugs*

Worked for me. :)

Unfortunately what was imperative for my current PC was to join the Stormcloaks, so I didn't avoid the MQ for *that* long. But there are plenty of other things to do in Skyrim that could make a person in that situation say "screw it, I'm gettin' on with my life" and head off for somewhere else entirely. It's not like you even need to go to Riverwood after you leave Helgen, and it's the people in Riverwood who put the "go to Whiterun" bit in your journal.

Pass Riverwood up.
Just keep walking to wherever it is you want to go and you will never see a dragon (so long as you don't have to talk to Balgruf)

It's quite simple: go to the palace, ask the Jarl for help so that Riverwood doesn't remain defenceless and walk away. Don't wait til the end of the conversation between the Jarl and Irileth. Just leave the palace; you won't get your reward but you also won't get the Bleak Falls Barrow quest. :)
