Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:47 am

I need a recipe for Elixer of blacksmithing or Fortify blacksmithing, but the improvement must be higher than 50% and please no links from http://www.uesp.net/ because most info on that website is wrong.

Much abliged.

Please do not post Spoilers in General.

People come to General to learn about the game without learning about what happens in the game. If they want to know about what happens, that is what the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers section is for.

Do not use quest details or location specific details related to quests/puzzles/NPCs in your posts in this section. General is for discussing gameplay and mechanics. General topics about the the game include but are not limited to races, items and their use, magic, enchanting, skills, character builds, criticism, praise, funny random things that happen, places from an esthetic standpoint and and other general topics.

Use the Spoilers Section if you have to post quest details or other spoilers or a thread about the same. This also includes console commands, and character build exploits. Along with Recipes and Ingredient Locations.

I will move this now.

Just use any two of the ingredients used for Smithing potions. Do not combine more than that, it will yield a reduced percentage. Wear your Alchemy gear and make sure it is enchanted as high as possible. This is without glitching and truly exploiting.

Huh? I have found UESP to be very accurate for all TES games. For Skyrim, I would describe it as somewhat incomplete since it is a reletively new game, but the info that is there is fairly accurate. Why all the hate for UESP?

The percentage of improvement you get from a potion is based on your alchemy skill. Which specific recipe doesn't matter - all blacksmithing potions made at the same alchemy skill level from any two ingredients that fortify smithing will be the same.

uesp.net has the correct information for what incredients have what effects. Don't be so quick to dismiss them.

If you need to improve your smithing more than you can using your current alchemy skill, try enchanting a set of fortify smithing gear. If you really want to improve your smithing a lot, drink a fortify restoration potion, then equip your gear.

Is switching between alchemy and enchanting glitching ? I do it all the time, If i enchant a weapon, or armor, i am sure i first made an potion of fortify enchanting, and for creating the potion, I am also sure i will wear all my armor that helps me with creating the potion, i even used a potion of echanting to create my armor that helps me with creating potions. In my eyes it's just smart :P not glitching :P

Glowing mushroom
Blisterwort

Spriggan sap

Wow seriously? Have you done any Alchemy? These four ingredients each have the property of "Fortify Smithing".

I usually combine Glowing Mushrooms and Blisterwort. And yes, to get a high level of that potion, you need to increase your Alchemy skill and/or make enchanted gear to fortify alchemy.

Sounds like YOU got up on the wrong side of the bed! LOL

Btw. Did you NOT read what the UESP said?

Alchemy

The following alchemy ingredients can be used to create a potion of Fortify Smithing:
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Blisterwort (4)
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Glowing_Mushroom (3)
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Sabre_Cat_Tooth (3)
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Spriggan_Sap (3)
Only two of these items are needed at once, not all of them.

Ignorant people are ignorant...

Now, Now, Literacy may not be his strong suit. I've also found the wiki he hates to be very accurate.

The problem isn't do do with quests, it is with the alchemy skill itself. The whole point of the way alchemy is set up is to discover the properties yourself by either eating ingredients (Historically accurate, mideval alchemists WOULD taste their ingredients, including Mercury, which explains why so many of them went nuts) or mixing them at random.

Asking for specific recipies is just plain lazy.

As others have said, the problem isn't the ingredients, it's your characters' alchemy skill level. Get that up, perk the "Stronger potions" perk, wear some potion brewing enchanted gear, and you'll be making super smithing potions in no time.

You don’t use all four. Any combination of two will get you what you want. If your skill isn’t high enough just buy one.

I may be a fine line between smart and glitching. For many the line is crossed when you go back and forth between the alchemy table and arcane enchanter using the alchemy table to make a sronger fortify enchant potion and then using that potion at the enchanting table to make stronger fortify alchemy enchanted gear and then going back to the alchemy table to use that gear to make a stronger potion, and back and forth and back and forth until you have boosted both to the nth degree. But it is a single player game so whose to say whether that is glitching or just plain smart?

Just buy them at the Alchemy store. They are called Blacksmith's Elixir and improves your smithing by 50%. They are easier to get than the Enchanter's Elixir. I never bother with Alchemy except skill up for leveling purposes. Just with the vanila elixir and 4 x fortify enchanting gear should get you gears that will make the game easy anyway.

Posting recipes is a spoiler, the post he posted was a pre-made one that he copy and pastes every time he moves a spoiler thread. There is a website I posted awhile back that shows all recipes, see if I can find it and will post it later.
