Need a Voice Actor?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:34 am

Hey there, all! I'm Mick, a professional actor (stage and screen) who's got a sweet voice, lots of experience, and a nice mic.

I will act in your mod. I've done mods for Oblivion, Fallout 2, and Fallout 3, and now I'm ready for some New Vegas shenanigans.

https://sites.google.com/site/mickmize2/ is a link to my website. All relevant samples are at the bottom.

PS. If there's a better place to post this, or a catch all thread, lemme know. I couldn't find one!

Pretty cool? Pretty cool?! That's awesome is what that is! :P

I listened to some of your samples, the sound quality is perfect and you sounds like you actually give a [censored] (Or you emote, to be a little more professional).

I'm working on a mod that will require voice acting eventually, but it's nowhere near complete enough for me to announce anything. I've had one to many awesome projects end up scrapped due to pc trouble, and that had a pretty big WIP following as well, which was just a dissapointment to everyone involved. So I'm not announcing anything untill the mod is pretty much done, which could take a while.

I'll keep you in mind though, I liked what I heard.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, it's incredibly cool that you take the time to voice act for free like this, massive kudos to you sir.

Agreed - great to see people with needed talents stepping up and offering their help to those who could use it.

Just one more aspect of the coolness that is a wonderfully creative modding scene.

Thanks, guys! It's both a great way to get practice and awesome to hear myself in-game. I did an Oblivion mod voice for a little Wood Elf, and would just talk to him over and over. I wish I'd recorded his barks and gasps, as killing myself would have been hilarious.

Anyway, hit me up when you've got a script, and I'll be here!

I'm impressed. The quality of your samples is very good. Might I ask what type of microphone you use? I have a Shure KSM21 that isnt currently being used, but I'm curious to know what you use sir.

I'm writing that down, a good mic would be very nice for future projects both in modding and other stuff. I'm contemplating the idea of a podcast actually.

For all interested modders, I've updated the samples at the bottom of my webpage. I've got two brief reels featuring a number of different characters, some very goofy, some very serious.

If you want to hear more, or have a specific voice in mind, let me know and I'll send you an audition.

Happy modding!

Just a quick question, not sure if anything will come of this idea, are you able to gravel your voice enough to do a convincing Ghoul? That tends to be the hardest voice to find, and while I can do it myself (With a lot of luck and almost as much whiskey/violent coughing :P ) it's not really something I like doing as it basically kills my voice for days afterwards, plus my english pronounciation has suffered greatly from lack of use.

Hey Urge!

No, I can't really gravel my voice like that. I think they have to use some voice modulation. If you could figure out what plugin you can use to make the voice sound like that, I'll be happy to act a Ghoul for you. Best to you, otherwise. Keep me in mind for your projects!

Just a quick note, if you don't have 300-500 dollars to spend on a microphone another great option is a http://www.amazon.com/CAD-U37-Condenser-Recording-Microphone/dp/B001AIQGUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1291760479&sr=1-1. Its what I use for what little voice acting I do, its only around $50 and a great alternative.

Not sure if I commented on this yet or in the other topic, but your voice acting is fantastic. I will most definitly have some roles for you in the coming months!

Oh I will, don't worry about that. If I ever get to the point where I can beging adding voices on this mod that is :P Cataclysm and Uni is taking it's toll on my spare time.

I have to correct you on this, there is no "Effect" or voice Modulation on any of the ghoul voices, it's a technique called "Glottal Fry"
you basically relax your vocal chords and just talk.

Here's an example of me ad-libbing a ghoul, (language warning!)

Very cool, Occam's Razor! Now I got a new thing to practice...

How is it on your chords?

extremely easy on the vocal chords if you've got them completely relaxed, doing it right, and aren't "forcing" them.
I could do the voice all day and return to my regular voice with absolutely no hoarseness at all, because I'm just letting my
vocal chords flap very loosely because I've relaxed them.

Doing something like Cookie Monster's Voice isn't what I would consider "Glottal Fry", because that's a "Forced" Rough voice and WILL burn your chords out
within a couple of minutes, but the ghoul voice is exactly what Christian Bale was doing in the Dark Knight movies.

Good samples, you have a pretty broad range of voices. I think I have a couple of mods that would benefit from voice acting, though it's user interface sounds rather than quest dialog. The first is a hunger/thirst/sleep mod that applies various penalties and bonuses based on how well your character's been taking care of themselves. The mod currently includes about 30 short messages that pop up on the screen when your character's status changes, and I gave the AI a sort of snarky, sarcastic personality in the same vein as Sergeant RL-3. A drill instructor voice would work, though a sort of sarcastic Yes Man would be even better. The other project is a lot shorter. I'm adding an initialization sequence to my power armor mod, basically a short sequence of images and text that play across the HUD when you don power armor, accompanied by vocal status updates. I envisioned two ways that that voice would work (both inspired by Crysis), either a breathy female voice or an uber-masculine robot. I was able to find some free sound bytes of a guy talking into a vocoder, saying things that I could edit into appropriate notifications, but it's pretty apparent that, well, its just some guy talking into a vocoder. Something more professional would be great.

Here are links to the mods in question:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37254

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37983#fileanchor

There are FO3 and FNV versions of both mods, and I'd end up using the lines in both of them.

If any of this sounds interesting, let me know and I'll put together a list of the lines required.
