Needing new card

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:21 am

Comfuser system:
MSI 785GM-E51 mobo
AMD Athlon II X3 435 CPU
Kingston 2x2GB DDR3 1600 memory
WDC 500GB SHD
LiteOn DVD-RW ODD
LG SuperMulti ODD
ColorsIt 500W PSU
Envision H190L 19" maxed at 1280x1024 75Hertz, 32Bit resolution

Right now I'm using the onboard graphics (Radeon HD4200) but need a new card to play Duke Nukem & RAGE, which of these cards (Asus HD6670, AMD HD6770, XFX HD6770, 550TI) would be my best bet to get the games running smoothest?
I don't normally play w/AA & all those settings as I'm not very knowledgable w/them & rather not mess w/them.

P.S. For some reason, I am not being allowed to place links to the cards mentioned above; but I am getting the card from Fry's if you'd like to look them up. Sorry.

Since Rage generally seems to dislike Radeon cards, I would lean towards the 550 Ti if I were you, if you wanted to have the highest chances of Rage performing well.

However, I doubt the 500W PSU is sufficient, and you should also be sure of what version of Windows you are running. Vista/Win7 64-bit or 32-bit?
The CPU could also be a bit faster, though with the nVidia card you could enable "GPU Transcoding" for textures to move some heavy-duty processing from the CPU to the GPU.

Also what do you mean with "WDC 500GB SHD"? Is it an HDD (most likely) or SSD?

Good luck

Running 7 64Bit
SHD=Sata Hard Drive

I'll look at the power the 550TI cards require, thanks.

The problem is most video cards only tell you the watts required when the important thing to know is the amps on the 12v rail(s). You may want to open the box and check the big label on the power supply to be sure. A 6770, on the other hand, has pretty modest power requirements that should fit the bill.

I may be able to get a 550 TI, depends on cashflow. Which whould be the better brand from Fry's?
I opened my comfuser & took a pic of the PSU label, but don't know how to attatch it here. What info would be helpful to you?
How come I can't post links & pics?

It's not allowed here. Upload it to a site like photobucket and link it from that site.
