Negativity on these forums.

I've noticed a lot of negativity around here lately; as such, I would like to challenge you all to a test....

You are all to write an epic speech, about why you like a subject of my choosing, a simple subject, you are to pour your heart out and proclaim why you love it.

The subject is.... overweight people.

I'm pretty sure forums games aren't allowed here, but who cares? (Well... mods do)

Overweight people? A vital aspect of the economy. Their desire for caloric intake puts money in to the hands of grocery stores and restaurants around the world. Money that could be spent on youth sports programs, to help fight childhood obesity.

I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth; banks are going bust; shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter; punks are running wild in the street, and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it.

We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat. And we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be!

We all know things are bad -- worse than bad -- they're crazy.

It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out any more. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we're living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, "Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials, and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone."

Well, I'm not going to leave you alone.

I want you to get overweight!

I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot. I don't want you to write to your Congressman, because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street.

All I know is that first, you've got to get overweight.

You've gotta say, "I'm not fat enough, goddammit! I need more bacon!"

So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get your credit card. I want you to get up right now and drive to the supermarket, walk in, go to the customer service counter and yell,

"I'm skinny as hell,

and I'm not going to take this anymore!!"

People like being negative, it seems they get some sort of pleasure from making themselves feel depressed, or so one gets this sort of impression, so they look for any excuse they can to feel negative about something, and if they can't find a legitimate reason to feel bad they invent one, when you get down to it it's kind of stupid, if whether you focus on the negative or the positive you still get the same results, why make yourself feel bad when it makes no difference except in your own mood? But then again, according to these people, most people are stupid anyway, so even if something is stupid that doesn't mean people will stop doing it.

Of course, as much as I dislike needlessly pessimistic people, I've also been inclined to be that way at times, so it is perhaps a little hypocritical to criticize them.

And overweight people? Well, they're people, and I judge people by how they behave, not by how much weight they have on their body. I'd rather associate with people who behave in a likable fashion who happen to be overweight than people who have a healthy physique who are complete jerks. Not to say that all overweight people are automatically likable, or that all people of average weight are not, but that just shows why it's foolish to judge people by their appearances.

I'd be lying if I said I specifically liked overweight people, but I don't dislike them either, I don't hold any special thoughts on them one way or another.

From the movie Braveheart...

Wallace: Sons of Scotland, I am William Wallace.

Young soldier: William Wallace is 700 pounds.

Wallace: Yes, I've heard. Eats cakes by the hundreds, and if he were here he'd consume the English with his [censored]. I AM William Wallace. And I see a whole army of my countrymen starving because of tyranny. You have come to eat as free men, and free men you are. What would you do without freedom? Will you eat?

Veteran soldier: Eat? All that? No, we will bake; and we will live.

Wallace: Aye, eat and you may die. Bake and you'll live -- at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our cake, but they'll never take our hunger!!!

This is an example of negativity in itself. Let's make fun of someone, let's try to demean another because of how they look. There is this so called negativity on these forums, usually incorrectly assumed as people want the best from a game and will post to say so. That is acceptable and usually leads to a reasonable discussion - downright rudeness is not acceptable.

I have been asked by http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/user/466541-mikedzines/ to add this post - it is by way of an explanation for some negative stuff he has posted.

I realize that I can come off as an arrogant opinionated jerk sometimes so over the last few weeks I've taken time to reflect on why i've been so negative and I guess its because of the unbearable amount of stress and responsibility thats going in my family right now.

Back when I created this account, my mom was battling through briast cancer and it was up to me to take care of her and the house while my dad paid the bills. It was hell but we got through it and shes been good for a couple years now. 3 months back, my dad was diagnosed with cancer, so its been the same thing all over again. I've gone from a complete extrovert and a hard working individual to sitting by my dad's side for weeks on end, just playing video games on my netbook, not talking to any friends.

I'm not sure how to end this post as I can't really say that i'm taking the necessary steps to improve. Its just become a way of life right now.

Hopefully you can just bare with me for a few more months.
