Nenya, wise, good Altmer steward of Falkreath. . . a nod to

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:03 am

There is just no denying it. If she were just a long lived Elf steward who had given wisdom to human men for generations without the name refference, I might have overlooked it. But Nenya? I caught the refference. For those who did not, I will explain. "Three Rings for The Tall Elf Kings under The Sky." Some will remember those words from the larger poem concerning The Rings of Power.

The Three Rings of the Elves were the mightiest, save Sauron's ruling ring. And these three were entrusted into wise and mighty hands. They were Vilya, The Sapphire Ring of Water, held by Elrond Half-Elven, Narya, The Ruby Ring of Fire, which Cirdan The Shipright yielded into the keeping of Gandalf The Gray, and Nenya, that is right, Nenya, The Diamond Ring of Adamant, which from the first was held by the Elf Princess Galadriel, an ancient, ageless and famously wise Queen among the Elves, who gave counsel, at times, to many generations of human kings who were distantly akin to her.

That a wise, sage of an Altmer lady has this name, one of only two truly wise and pleasant Altmer I have encountered in Skyrim aside from my own character, bears this name is just too much for coincedence.

Without a doubt it's a nod to LOTR and Galadriel.

well the entirety of the fantasy RPGgenre and TES oew their existence to LOTR, so there better be some references.

of course, everything the game takes from LOTR in terms of general fantasy tropes its made might be reference enough...

its crazy! I almost always play as a wood elf named galadriel, and she seems to love to wear magic rings!

Install her as Queen of Alinor! There, Thalmor problem solved, they can't stand against TES Galadriel.

Well, of course you are right. But, if she had worn long flowing hair and a silvery-white mages robe and a gleaming Circlet of Peerless Clairvoyance and ruled over an archer filled forest of giant, glowing Juniper trees that no Draugr, Falmer, spider, or necromancer could enter AND been named Nenya. . . well, that would have ceased to have been a nod and would have classified as an uber obvious full on dedication. lol.
