On the other hand, my character is a master in stealth, is the best assassin there ever was, killed emperor without being seen and the guards still say they know that I'm with the dark brotherhood.

Hey, it's not like they have email. Of course, news of a dragon attack in Helgen reaches Whiterun before I can, even though I'm running there directly…

That said, I don't think it bothers me as much as the fact that everyone knows who you are in Fallout 3 even if you surgically change your face. I'm more willing to believe that people wouldn't recognize the great and mighty Dragonborn of legend ("I thought you'd be taller…") than I'm willing to believe that everyone recognizes you immediately in a world with no newspapers or internet.

Disagree. You will get comments from guards based on your actions.

I like when people use the lack of every NPC being scripted to react to your "reputation" being an indicator of a shallow game. The amount of labor involved in scripting every NPC for such would be ridiculous.

You get [censored] repetitive comments from guards about your skills and in most cases they have no way to know about what they are saying. It's not a feature it's annoying and a poor excuse for a reputation system.

Also just because something is hard isn't an excuse for not doing it. It was really hard to build the landmass but they managed to get that done.

The real problem is time and space. Give them another 3 years to work on skyrim and yes they could do just about anything. Space.. The game had to be able to be installed on a xbox with a 5 gig harddrive. Lowest common denominator.

On my new character, I'm roleplaying a guy who isn't sure of himself. Vilkas (and Njada) scared me away. I haven't joined the Companions yet. I'm going to try my hand at hunting Elk.

I love bob's avatar. It's from Spongebob.
In the episode, Squidward got in an accident and it made him super ridiculously handsome.

Yeah it's annoying. Take for example if you do the MQ but not the civil war series and you have to do the negotiations. I had to kick the Jarls out of riften and turn it over to the imperials, the jarl and his family got to go live in the blue palace of solititude. Afterward they just loathe you and call you a "stormcloak" and threaten you.

I just want grab each one by the scrawny neck and say "Hey [BLEEP]! If I hadn't made that negotiation to keep your overprivileged royal ass here, you would be dead! Not just dead, your SOUL would be eaten. So how about instead of laying around being mopey that you had to trade a 10 star palace for a 9 star mansion, you be just a tiny bit grateful for something!"

But no...you just sit there...blank faced...taking all the heat and undeserved criticism from EVERYBODY. Some might say that's what you're supposed to do to be a real hero but to hell with that. It doesn't matter if I go off on some Jarl and his family, it doesn't change what I actually accomplished. These role playing games need to start reflecting a bit more humanistic dialogue instead of having NPC's either dog pile on you or kiss your ass outright.

humanistic dialogue instead of having NPC's either dog pile on you or kiss your ass outright.

I think that's at the core of many gripes around here (not just related to this, but many instances in the game). A lot of people take a humanist standpoint it seems. All I can say is that it's a strongly viking inspired fantasy game, more or less. Not to mention thieves, assassins, bloodthirsty politician, zombie, militaristic themed game. I suggest to drop the gandhi aspirations to the side for now.

But it's just inconsistent. People protest games being straight forward black and white with good and evil, ok, then we make games with more shades where often you have to pick between two or more questionably moral decisions. But then we make campy dialogue where you're either a grand hero who can do no wrong (until you make a morally questionable choice) or you're a complete [censored] who makes life hard for people and doesn't do anything good (or you're just plain evil). It makes no sense, and it's even worse when you're presented with that dialogue and you can't even interact with it.

There's a few exceptional cases, like where you free Odhaviing from the reach and the Guards "don't understand that reasoning" but they don't outright condemn you (Well, sometimes they do).

They don't even care about politics. I wouldn't be surprised if he truly hadn't heard about all of those deeds. As far as he is concerned the companions are doing all the deeds that need doing in Skyrim.
