This gets one big  The comments on that article sum up my thoughts completely. How about slowing down a little and putting more dev time into this next time Ubisoft. Pathetic.

"Amacio added that this schedule will likely slow down after next year's installment. "

That, and Ubisoft has already proven that they can make good games in one year. Brotherhood was a good game with enough new additions to keep it interesting and it seems like Revelations will do the same. Not everyone will share my opinion, I know that. Besides, with Ubisoft's habit to end their games with massive cliff hangers I honestly don't mind another game in 2012, especially because it finishes Desmond's story and we'll finally have all the answers. The only thing I worry about is we're probably not get to play an ancestor in the 2012 game. Desmond is rather dull compared to Ezio and Altair, and getting to play in historical settings and meet historical people is one of AC's big selling points.

The AC games they make after that I assume will be on new engines, with new ancestors and new eras.

THAT, and this was already confirmed earlier. :P I've known about this fourth AC game about Desmond for a while now.

I don't believe that for a second.

Have a little faith in them. Even if they do release AC3 within a year after the 2012 game, if it's good, what's the problem?

Besides, AC2 has always been meant to be a trilogy. They've known that they since they made AC2. They had the story, the models, the engine, the core of the game, they didn't have to built each game up from scratch, allowing them to make them in a year and still release something good.
Everything they do after that will most likely require a lot more time: new characters, new 'subject' since Desmond will be out of the picture, new ancestor, new era, new story, possibly a new engine, you name it. I find it very easy to believe that they will slow down after 2012 to come up with something new and fresh for AC3.

On a not so related note, I just noticed that it says 'novice' under my Altair avatar. I'm easily amused. :P

You summed up my thoughts perfectly.

I don't see how a game around Desmond would work... guns? Oh god.

Ehh, You do know that they have been building up to AC3 For so long?
I Don't know why people call Ubisoft pathetic like Infinity Ward and Activision, Ubi put a lot of effort into their games, they don't focus on gameplay, they focus on story, They have some of the best well hidden secrets I have seen, heck they put binary codes in their trailer that you can see for a split second.

Ezio has a wrist gun, and a crossbow so long-range firearms aren't that difficult to imagine.
Either way, Ubisoft better come up with something good to make playing Desmond fun. As it stands now, I have faith in them.

This. For those who didn't catch that, the Revelations E3 trailer had heximal codes that could be translated to binary and that to text, and said "Three lives toiled. Three lives lost. Three messages delivered: the greeting, the warning, the revelation." Those three lives are Altair, Ezio and Desmond.
And the Da Vinci Disappearance had something similar, codes that could be entered in google earth and point to a place called Turin. The Shroud of Turin is one of the Pieces of Eden. What this means no one knows but it might have something to do with AC3, since I doubt they will continue with the Apple of Eden.

That's the problem. They don't focus on gameplay like you said. Funny how people call out Activision and IW, who also pump out the same stuff over and over, but it's ok for Ubi? No.

I guess they're just not really your kind of games then.

eh?! Revelations hasn't even been released yet! Not wasting any time then!

To be honest, I always thought the Desmond bits were the worst parts of Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood, (can't really comment on the first one as I haven't really played it much) so if the whole thing is going to be about Desmond then I won't play it.

Nah it won't, Although it will end Desmond's story, it will feature a new ancestor of Desmonds.

Enough is enough, already. This year's annual release isn't even out the door, already. This is getting ridiculous and Ubisoft have effectively scrapped the feelings I once had for this series. AC II was great, so learn from it and make another game with new art assets, characters, etc. that takes more than a year.

Unlike CoD, Assassins Creed's gameplay is fresh. An FPS will be an FPS, they all have extremely similar gameplay to them. Action/Adventure/etc games don't, and I personally don't play many of those games besides AC. So yeah: fresh. Although like CoD, they both have nailed down their gameplay formula. No need to fix what isn't broken :P

My main hook for Assassins Creed is the story, I cannot not buy Revelation because I NEED to know what happens to Ezio.

Couldn't agree more Seti. When I read the article I was like "you got to be kidding me. Release Revelations first please then wait until 2012 to announce another one."

I agree, I don't really see the problem here

What's so wrong or indecent about making the announcement now? If they know they're doing it anyway I don't see how announcing it early changes anything.

I thought so. I read a gaming magazine a little while ago that said they'd do another with a different ancestor, since Revelations was the final part of Ezio's journey. (Makes sense, he isn't the young man we see at the start of AC2 anymore.)

I didn't think it would be announced so soon though. Surely these games take a while to make?

A new ancestor in the 2012 game is not confirmed. I doubt they would add in a new ancestor with his/her own story and problems to a game that is supposed to end the trilogy involving Desmond. This game will be about the event they uncovered at the end of Brotherhood involving Abstergo's satelite.
Thanks to the bleeding effect Desmond now has the skills to fight and survive and he has to escape from whoever put him into the Animus because he's in a coma right now. So, no ancestor, Desmond will be the main character. I figure he will probably wake up at the end of Revelations and BAM, cliff hanger.

Actually I think Ubisoft has been absolutely brilliant with this series. AC 2, brotherhood, revelations, and likely the 2012 one all utilize the same game engine. They just build on it a bit each time and add a whole games worth of story and content. There is no reason to slow down when you don't have to redesign the engine each time.

Think of brotherhood, revelations, etc as simply very large expansion packs to AC 2. Assassins Creed 3 will come out after all of these are concluded and start up a whole new story line with another all new focus on another Assassin at a different time in history. AC 3 is then when they will focus on rebuilding the engine and everything... most likely for the next gen consoles.

I have no problem coughing up money to Ubisoft as long as they keep producing each game with so much new content and in-depth story. It sounds as if the 2012 game may not even have us strapped in the animus then and will focus on Desmond and all of his "training".

I'm not seeing an issue here either.

I've enjoyed the series quite a bit and will gladly play yet another game.

Ubi's going to end up like Activision if they don't get their act together and stop pumping yearly sequels. You don't see Epic pumping out Gears annually even though they could do it.
