New Dragon Shouts

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:57 pm

Hey, I'm having a little trouble with my mod, Resilient Dragons. I've created a new shout/Thu um, that fears enemies away for 20 seconds. I've used console commands to add it to my character, and it works exactly as it should...however, I cannot get any Dragon to actually use the shout.

I've managed other shouts, such as a tweaked dismay and unrelenting force - but this one seems to be the problem.

quick breakdown of details:
Spoiler

-Spell ("Roar"):

Type: Voicepower
Equip type: EitherHand

-Two effects:

Confidence Down and Stagger push

Archetype: Demoralize
Casting Type: Fire and Forget
Delivery: Self

-Shout:

Words 1,2,3 - WordDragonfire01
Spell 1,2,3 - Roar

All visual effects have been disabled, minus an added imagespace modifier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. As I've said, I can use this shout perfectly when added to my character...so it definitely works as intended. Just not sure what's stopping it working with the Dragons. I've tested on dragons with no other shouts or skills too, to ensure that it wasn't a limitation on the number of skills/shouts.

Thanks.

The problem is the same as when you give a custom NPC follower a custom spell. The AI doesn't know how to 'use' the spell, it doesn't recognize it. You can put a script on the dragon to use it.

I posted a script on another thread describing how to get a follower to cast a custom spell. I'm pretty sure it works for shouts as well:

Hmmm. I have made many custom spells and custom NPCs and they have no problems using spells. The only thing I did to fix the problem was make the spells do 1 damage as their first effect, and what I actually need them to do as the second.

exactly, have you tried doing this for your dragon shout? if it does just a little bit of damage then the dragon will probably use it

Hey guys. Sorry I'd pretty much abandoned thread thinking there were no replies. My bad. I ended up scrapping that particular shout. It does appear that "Self" shouts don't work with Dragons. I've played around for a VERY long time adding Dragon shouts. It is very mysterious. They tend to pick a shout based on unknown reasoning, and (at least in my findings) ignore others because of it. Damage does appear to be an issue, but a vague one.

For example -

Dragon 01 has Shout A, Dragon uses Shout A, as well as the default attacks/shouts.

Dragon 02 has Shout B, Dragon uses Shout B, as well as the default attacks/shouts.

Dragon 03 has Shout A and Shout B, Dragon only uses Shout A, as well as the default attacks/shouts.

- Changing variables of the shouts (like damage and effects) seem to change their priority, but not the ability to use both shouts.

Thanks for your help on the matter. I decided to just limit to one new shout per Dragon, for now. This fear shout ended up just being Dismay, and the basis for the Roar Shout became a cloak spell, constantly around the Dragon for fear. So things turned out quite well despite this setback.
