Hi all, I'm fairly new to Skyrim, I think it's a fantastic game.

Could you experienced Skyrim gamers share some tips, tricks or helpful hints that could help me with my travels in Skyrim.

Thanks in advanced and have a happy new year :).

Companions make good mules.
The Steed Stone is the best (IMO)
Do not focus on leveling, focus on playing.

If you are stuck somewhere in a dungeon, make sure to look around and search for clues. For a player that is new to this it might be hard to realize there is a puzzle of some sort in order to get further etc, but there are almost always good hints in the surroundings.

If a fight is too difficult, try to lure one of the opponents away and make use of the terrain. If you are still having difficulty with a battle after several attempts then dont hesitate to just turn around and run, you can always come back later and the enemies of that battle will stay the same while you level up (enemy level is locked when you enter a place).

Watch out for arrows
Sweetrolls are awesome
Don't kill chickens...even if you are hungry...
If you run into a troll...run
Dragons might attack you off guard, stock up on potions and always be ready
Horses arent the best thing to buy at low level, but if you like one, don't hold off from getting it
Houses have nice benefits
Be careful killing npcs, you can get in some big trouble
Try not to fast travel that much, you may experience the game alot more in depth
A companion can help Alot
Explore, it can be tons of fun, and rewarding
Give to poor people
Loot as much as possible
Use your favorites bar effectively
Try to time enemy attacks, most can be timed, and dodged
Have fun.

****spoilers****

Between Pinewatch and Riverwood, there is a clearing where a woodsman was chopping down trees, until he met an unfortunate fate. Check next to his body for a decent starting weapon.

Stay away from bugged quests/zones, and don't trigger them. Unless you want to risk never being able to complete them.

Plan out your perks a bit, but don't obsess over it. Try to only use carriages for fast travel. Play what's fun to you and not what others say is the most effective.

You'll find out that ice isn't the best destruction magic in the game due to most enemies being resistant to it. Focus more on lightning or fire, that is, if you're a mage.

Most importantly though, what the guy above me said. Just have fun!!!

Save after the intro ride and just before you design your character so you can skip the intro if you want to make another character.

Kill anything that moves. If its about to kill you, run from it.

If you hit a new level in a dungeon or in a place where you're likely to run into lots of enemies, save your level up for when you're low on health. Your 3 meters reset to full after you level up.

If/when you get a house in Riften, speak to the Jarl straight away without going to your house first. It could save you from an annoying bug.

If you want to become a god focus on enchanting and smithing.

If you want to become a super god focus on those and Alchemy.

If you want to have fun and a challenge only put a few points into those skills.

Companions are always stuck at the level you get them at. If you get one at level 2 when you are level 20 they will be mostly useless and will have been so for a good while.

Horses think they are Dragons and will attack everything once you dismount, be wary.

Some enemies will kill you most of the time no matter your skill until you reach a higher level. Be wary of high level areas and enemies. Also be aware the loot in those areas can be quite good for your level.

Try to balance your levelling, by that I mean make sure you level your combat skills at least at the same rate as your other ones, if not more.

If you see something on the horizon that looks interesting, wander off and explore it... Skyrim is good at rewarding you for doing this.

Try to focus on one combat tree rather than a few. One handed + shield is a nice simple class for your first char.

As you level up, enemies become tougher, so you will need your combat skills to be high ;)

Anyone know what I should use for an Assassin?
Sneak and OH are already decided.

Make sure you don't have any pending work in your real life, if you do, finish them first before venturing into this soul trapping game.
