I was under the impression that the banstick looks like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrdx9WElU0o, actually.

I know all of the QuakeCon mods really well, and have met them several times in real life. I met GStaff and Nick at QuakeCon this year, and got to watch them talk about being moderators in the Community moderators panel.
:o You must message me all the gory details. Maybe it holds the secrets of how to escape this dungeon.
I feel sad about the appointment. Doesn't it mean that posts have to be more conservative and reserved than would normally be acceptable with a touch of humor to make them not feel so heavy although the authority in them is unmistakable? Dual blessing and curse if you ask me. Do you guys get lonely? Not in real life, but I mean you're surrounded with attention whilst I'm sure you're also isolated and disillusioned [by your role]?
I'd tip my hat (if I was wearing one) to you BootySweat - its almost akin to being a BGS employee and not being able to experience the products as fans would.
What the Moderators did to MitchEvious and BootySweat:

I think that is something we look for when we go looking for moderators really. Folks that are a bit conservative and reserved by nature but still have a bit of humor about them. (except me, I know no humor/all business/no play/no opinions...) But really we do look for those who can and do keep their cool even under a bit of pressure or when someones opinions differ from their own. People who enjoy expressing their own opinions but do so without the expectation that all will agree and being able to handle it when someone calls us names because we just don't see something "our way". The ability to be respectful even to people we disagree with and to be non-judgmental enough to see another side or to accept that people are different and that's ok.
While we do sometimes moderate ourselves and what we say, we are free to and do often express disappointment in some changes the company makes or question some of their decisions. It's our right as volunteers. But most of us enjoy what we do and treat it as if it were our job. I wouldn't be here in the first place if I didn't love Bethesda's games. Their games brought me here and keep me here. I don't think our new moderators are any exception to that.
I just hope that Mitch and Booty stay on and enjoy this place just one iota as much as I have through the years. I get downright sentimental about this place sometimes. It's like a second home to me where my virtual friends live.
I feel the same way. I'm not sure if I would even WANT to be a mod. I mean, I recall all the times where a troll was about in a thread but no mods were really on to stop them and I would have loved to have been a mod at those times, but mods do have to be careful with what they say, and I DO love my arguments. I'll fully admit that I love to debate on most of the forums around here. I don't think I could be a mod if it meant that had to tone that down.
It's not for everyone. It's pretty hard sometimes to be called all sorts of vile things and just shrug it off and still feel good about what you do. Most of the time however, one can just consider the source. It's not like we don't want folks to read and follow the rules.
One can debate and still remain civil and respectful. I used to debate in the religious and political threads here and survived without a warning. So....even during heated debate one can remain civil and stay within the rules. Again, it's what we look for.
