New patch coming! But what will it actually do?

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 5:40 pm

GSTAFF announced on the blog that:

Prior to release [of Old World Blues], we will release a new title update for New Vegas. Along with adding support for Old World Blues, the update will bring improvements to performance and stability in major areas.

Is this the comprehensive patch that was promised to us two months ago that will fix many quests issues and bugs? For example: ED-E, BoS becoming hostile, companions not responding, NCR Correctional Facility take over, gun-over-head bug, etc. Those are just a few among the many issues being constantly reported in all of the support forms that no restart and fresh install will fix.

GSTAFF, please respond with some real details and not just "we'll have more to say at a later date".

Well i hope this patch comes out sooner rather than later. Were getting down to our last week and still no patch, still no trailer, and still no announcement of when the DLC will come out.

What? An announced date and a person actually learning of problems straight from the players? How is that a bad thing?

Oh its not a bad thing that there asking people about the bugs etc. But when they said that it was suppose to be released in June. Then i find out its going to be released in July it can loose people interests because thats some more time that you have to wait and with other games out and about to catch peoples attention there loosing people. Time is money and there running out of time. They still got to release Lonesome road yet...

Stop saying ''loose'' and ''loosing'' when you mean lose and losing. -_-

They can release whenever they feel like it. Ultimately, the consumers are just a bunch of sheep waiting to be fleeced; think of the extra month as a very brief wait where you can hold onto you $10, no need to rush it.

Fingers crossed that they fixed the shopkeepers refresh bug, I've been getting that a lot recently and it's annoying as all hell.

And no, they don't get paid for patches, but they shouldn't. The fact that a patch is required essentially means that the game was shipped in a state where it has flaws that need fixing. Now, I understand that no game is perfect, and I'm not holding the fact that NV requires patching against Obsidian; I've yet to see the game that shipped bug-free. Just pointing out that saying developers don't get paid for patches doesn't really hold any water, as they are simply fixing problems with their product.

It's not a grammar issue; it's a spelling issue. At best, you're using the wrong word. Your grammar svcks too, though. I was ignoring that because grammar is much more difficult to correct, unlike spelling; just drop one of the o's. It even saves you a keypress.

And while you're correct that people who play this game don't all visit the forums (thank god), that doesn't matter. When Old World Blues is about out, the company will do at least a minor marketing blitz in preparation.

The game's been out over half a year; if they're not bored to the point where they'd skip an expansion already, another month isn't going to be the deal breaker for more than a handful. Besides, expansions are how you get people to come back to a product, the people who stick with it the whole time between expansions are your hardcoe base who'd be there regardless of expansions.

The thing is you have to wonder if a lot of people won't have lost interest in NV before any of this comes out, especially Lonesome Road which might not even be out before September.

I was very happy with the last patch. It basically fixed the big guns like the plasma caster, minigun, and gatling laser.
It made the assault carbine from useless to very awesome.

Since I play in third person, the third person bug with the plasma caster fix basically gave me a death machine that kills anything.

The minigun and gatling laser moved from mediocre to ultimate kill machines.

Hopefully This alone could extend the game until dlc is released. The stupid brotherhood vendor and her million laser rifles that I sold her. I also need power armor suits to complete her armory.

You should be happy Obsidian is actually still actively patching the game. Bethesda abandoned patching actual bugs after the dlc started rolling out and only released patches for compatibility. Some of those patches even added bugs to the main game that were left to the modders.

Software/patches aren't like a UPS package... ain't no guaranteed next-day delivery. I'm sure they wanted to be able to release it this month, but s**t happens, unexpected problems crop up, Q&A finds more stuff they need to fix, etc... until they gotta bump it out a ways farther. I know its frustrating, but I'm sure you too would prefer a fully-cooked patch to one that brings more problems and shortcomings with it.
