New Player Faction

introductory rant:
Spoiler
I completed the game on hardcoe mode without cheating or modding. I found that I was rather disappointed with the ending. I am aware that I can go back an do things to alter then ending, however, I do not care about NCR, Legion, or the stupid robots. What I wanted to do seemed like it was an option at the time; using Yes Man to make Vegas mine. This did not happen, as Yes Man put it, he found new programming to make himself more assertive, even though I have a 100 Science and 100 Speech character sitting right at the terminal. I ventured the wastes and helped many cities and peoples and won the hearts of many and yet, when the game ended, like Fallout 1, I was cast aside and meaningless. Well no more!

What I would have done, being the maniacal genius I sometimes claim to be, would have been to get supporters to do the fighting for me. Yes, I played a diplomatic character, and yes, I talked down Legate cuz he would have made me his new girl friend. Being angered at Obsidian for forcing me to use 2 crappy companions at any given time, and very limited AI assistance in some scripted battles, it got me thinking, perhaps, I can script a lot of battles, and add a faction that the player owns, not just the player faction. The player would quest in Good Springs, win the hearts and minds of its patrons, and recruit Sunny into his army, rather than have her sit in the bar for the rest of the game and do nothing. What about Primm? I saved the useless deputy and felt that with a diplomatic character I should be able to convince a loser like him to join my army and leave that crap hole. It's not like any of the characters in the game have awesome living conditions. So it isn't illogical to paint a picture of a unified Nevada to its residents who display contempt to the NCR invaders and hide their fears of the evil Legion camped just east of the Colorado.

Why can't the player get a militia? I seem to have to fight other militias, convince them to join another cause, or avoid them completely. I want more than a dog and a sniper with PTSD. I want to establish bases, recruit citizens to join my cause, equip my troops with weapons and armor, and set up caravans of my own to bring prosperity to New Vegas on my own terms. Why can't the player use his army to overthrow NCR, or even ally with them? Why can't the player ally with the Kahns to use them as shock troops against Legion? Why is it not the player's army fighting off Legion at Hooverdam with assistance from the boomers, HELIOS 1, the Brotherhood of Steel, the Kahns, Super Mutants, and the NV robots? Why not occupy New Vegas with Nevada Militia, and hack House with a player owned AI, or connect the computer terminal to a player run command center? The answer is to these rhetorical questions is simple: though possible in the GECK to bring alive many of these concepts, Obsidian was not awarded the time to do such, or perhaps, had no intention of doing such from the start.

You are a Courier. How can a lowly courier raise an army? Bah! This story is moot, if you can create a courier with 10 intelligence and have the freedom to go where you want, say what you want, and kill who you want, then how can a 10 INT or 10 CHA character afford to pass on the option of at least trying to hiring mercs to do some of the dirty work for him. You are out for blood in this game, and I felt that with the introduction of factions, that I could, somehow gain numbers and favors to call in a few punches to take out Benny and raid Lucky 38 etc; however, this is not so.

I thus digress from my rant. I now bring you all my idea, and what I have been playing around with in the GECK for a few days now. It appears that NPC's can be bound to the player's faction, or even, the player bound to a faction with NPC's. This is important, because I can script people with message dialogues to move assigned NPC's to locations or initiate combats with other factions. This would ultimately turn New Vegas into a player militia occupied territory, erasing many quests I do not care for (helping those factions I wish to kill). Just play the game and write down names of people who seem like hard chargers, but fail to do anything for the player even though they have the capability to. In fact, after you help many NPC's, they just thank you, give you some caps, and they sit there and do absolutely nothing for the rest of the game. It wouldn't be too hard for a team to go through and tweak some language options in many NPC's to flag them as player militia faction members. Then just a little more effort to have one of your lieutenants of captains with language options to move or assign these NPC's to patrols, assault teams for new quest battles, or parking people at new player owned bases.

What I have now:

set up a new faction - "Nevada Militia"
assigned neutralities, hostilities, and alliances to appropriate factions.
copied GSgasstation, cleaned it up, fixed the lighting, reorganized the shelves, added a desk and hamradio.

will do: script the Gas Station in Good Springs to clean up and be reorganized and fixed when the player speaks with Sunny and convinces her to start a militia with you and use the old Gas Station as an starter base. Some chips and talking with the right town's folk will go a long way in this quest.
the town's folk will join the militia faction, but will not be allowed to be used as foot soldiers (defense only) except Sunny, who is going along for the ride.
