I had this problem for a while too. What I suggest is just making one completely opposite from what you usually play. For example, if you play a warrior, make a pure mage or an assassin, and use skills that you having really used before. Also try to avoid doing all the quests you've done before, it gets quite repetitive.

What Burrito said.. but also think about hindering yourself on purpose?

Wearing some of the lowest grade armor? Or just wear clothes and use alteration? Say if you used nothing but Swords start using Axes and Maces? Not sneaky this time? Be sneaky this time?

Or, just do what I do and have to RP your heart out to mold your character. IMHO my character has a purpose more then a face..

Are you on PC ? For what made it interesting was to mod out the MQ. No dragons, No Dragonborn. Just me and the Deadric quests and the guilds, the randoms ... I love finding my own purpose each day.

What have you been doing that you get bored so quickly? On new characters, it takes me at least 20 minutes to get some shopping done in Riverwood and then walk down to Whiterun...

Make a character... not a toon. Play not to beat the game, but to enjoy it. Make up a story as to why you character is in Skyrim and what he/she hopes to accomplish. Don't just pick a class and try to do everything with it.

Indeed. I made an Orc last night and ran him through 12 levels doing Orcish stuff. Found my brother Orcs in a couple of places, was welcomed. As Orcs smith I ran him up to 50 and the Orcish perk and made Orc weapons and armor for him. A lot of the fun was my quest to find my brethren while exploring mostly near Falkreath.

I don't know if I'll play him lots. I have four other fairly carefully chosen ones already.

Make a char up using skills that you either haven't used at all or very seldom. Make up a back story and an outline of what you want to to. Stick with it. If you've alway's done alot of smithing, enchanting or alchemy, have the char use only what he/she finds or buy's. It makes finding stuff alot more "special" if you can't make it yourself ( ever )

Use no weapon's, or one that you seldom/never use. maybe a race you don't generally play. Make up a job, not saying go chop wood for 6 hr's, but maybe your job is to clear all the caves in an area of the undead. So treat it like a job. Weekends off.

Or just simply take a break from playing for a couple days and come back with a good idea of what you want to do.

Write the names of all the skills on little pieces of paper. Draw 5 of those out of a hat and use only those skills. Every time one of them reaches 100 you get to draw another random skill.

Give your build more time to form. I know it's easy to restart. Your an altoholic, I am too. But I get attached to a build I really like. The highest level I've been is level 38.

I had the same problem, BUT i figured out the cure after completing the game multiple times.

I picked Orc race and made him the most badass looking as i could, 2 handed greatsword, heavy armor. No power leveling, just focus on those two skills other skills will level up naturally. No enchanting or smithing, use what you loot.

Go http://www.gamebanshee.com/skyrim/mapofskyrim.php#null and download the map (SPOILER) this map contains all the locations.
Open the map in paint or what ever and start exploring the world grid by grid, mark the visited locations to the map.

You get "borded" and you need "idears"?

Here is an idea (sans the "r") that will benefit you the rest of your life:

Use your imagination.

Never be bored (sans the extra "d") again.

From all the different character types that I have played in Skyrim, I like the sneaky illusionist/summoner/archer better than most.

In battle, I start big fight without ever being seen, then summon some distractions if needed, and then finish the fights from afar with archery.

In quests I use honeyed talk when needed, and almost never fast travel and look around for new interesting things before I reach my next targets.

Sometimes I get distracted a lot, and always I enjoy the scenery and new encounters in the way.

After Riverwood, I never bring along a companion, and in most cases, I advance my pickpocketing skill until I get some extra pockets to haul more loot around.

I found for me the background-story is the most important thing for a new character. This way it is much easier to identify and make up consistent decisions through the game. It also gives one some handicaps which make the playthrough that much more fun.

i'm currently playing an Orc noble. No armour, just fine clothes, fine boots and fine hat. The only weapon i have is an ebony dagger (has to be the best).

Skills

1-handed
Speech
enchanting (it's where he's made his fortune - selling daggers with banish)
Illusion - used for fear, calm, frenzy and fury. He simply doesn't have the desire nor time to fight all the riff raff.

When he can be bothered dragging himself away from his Manor in Solitude, he meets up with his old friend Nazeem, in Whiterun.

He also takes the carriage to Winterhold college as to purchase his gem stones for enchanting. Has his housecarl bring him his fine steed for the return journey. She also doubles up as a cart horse for all his wears. He can't be seen to be doing the work of a lackey.

Play on master or expert with no crafting, only use what you find. Try to play without sneak either for an added challenge. You will come to love your shield.

I find that really making a character makes it enjoyable to do multiple play throughs. What I mean by that is make each one unique and have their own personality and story. As if it was a real person, where they come from, how they approach a battle situation, how they dress, what they like to eat, favorite food etc. It makes it more then just a bunch of hacking and slash and more like you are experiencing this persons story in this alien world. Worth giving a try if nothing else.

I'm rolling a new character. I want something pretty challenging, so I'm doing a Nord with studded armor, iron helmet, steel gauntlets, steel boots, banded iron shield, and steel sword. No smithing, only use enchantments that I can buy. Adept difficulty, serpent stone and a focus on Alteration for magic resistance and the paralyze spell.

So basically in a nutshell my character is:

One-Handed
Block
Alteration

Reliant on buying potions for healing, poisons, etc.
