New problem after patch

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:37 pm

I am experiencing a new problem that has never occured until the last patch: when fast-traveling or loading a save, the loading screen will sometimes never end. The game tips still change on top every few seconds, the roulette keeps on spinning but the game won't load. I've timed it to 8 minutes, didn't have the patience for more.

Do you have mods loaded? Have you tried to disable them all and try a fresh game? Have you tried a new game modded?

I do not use any mods whatsoever. Never installed a single one, not even minor bug-fixing ones.

P.S. I've also tried verifying the game cache.

Have you tried a new game?

Yes.

It's not something that happens every single time, but once every few fast-travels or save/loads.

Maybe a bad update? Try a clean reinstall. Remove the local content through steam. Make sure to delete
the fallout 3 new vegas directory afterwards since steam doesnt completely remove it (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas). Also backup your save games
and delete the save game directory (C:\Users\Nathan\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV). Copy the Saves folder first.

I forgot about the bad update thing. The previous patches I ended up doing an entire reinstall, so that's a good idea. I haven't had to with this patch, got lucky this time I guess.

I have exactly the same issue. After patch, sometimes, loading screen takes forever. Also, I noticed that if the game keep loading that way, I have to reboot. Once it did it, something worst comes up that the game some how mess up with my Nvidia Driver (270.61) that I have to re install it too! Gonna try clean install and see.

Ok, I was having a similar issue that I have since resolved. The problem for me seemed to be the fact that I had downloaded the Dead Money DLC patch for the game prior to installing the 1.3 patch. Then after having played the Dead Money content for a while my Steam client recently updated to the 1.3 patch. Since that point I was unable to load my saved games. I updated to the latest nVidia driver for my gtx580 and verified my game files as indicated by the sticky and have the same results as the poster above in that it kept trying to download a file it thought was missing or corrupt. Anyway, this still didn't fix my saved game. In the end I found out what the problem was. After starting the launcher I clicked on the "data files" and I noticed that since installing the 1.3 patch my "DeadMoney.esm" file was unchecked for some strange reason. I checked the box, and started the game and blam, I could now reload my latest saved game.

I hope this helps some of you out.

Oh and bethseda if you're reading, would it be too much to ask to detect if a saved game file contains dlc (dead money) specific content, and the client has not loaded the appropriate data file (as described above) then simply present an appropriate error message to the user, rather than hanging indefinitely as was my case?

Cheers,

DaCheat.

Mine seemed to fix itself after I loaded a different save, then from that save, loaded the one I wanted. Could easily have just been good luck though...

I have the same issue with a twist. I was playing in windowed mode because regular mode I have sound glitches and the only way to get around the sound glitches is in windowed mode. I just downloaded the new patch so I thought hmm maybe they fixed the sound glitch I was having loaded my save no problem still had sound glitches. So I changed it back to windowed mode and just started having this same problem... So heres my dilima have a normal load and have sound glitches or play in window mode and have loading problems. This game isn't older computer friendly!...

Edit: Okay removing any mods installed prior to the patch fixed my issue with the loading..

I have this same issue. No addons, no save games, brand new installation of the Vista 64 bit OS and game on fresh hardware.

Temporary solution: select New Game. Press Esc to bypass the cutscene. After the loading protocols are committed to memory, press Esc again to bring up the menu. Select a game to load.

I am unsure if this can have harmful effects on the saved data, however it is the only way to make saved games function. I did notice that each time doing this 'caused the inventory of the vendor in Goodsprings to semi-reset. That reset (whatever it is) is necessary to void the functions.

Background:

Vista 64 sp2
i7 920
ATI radeon 4850 w/ latest AMD driver
Samsung P2450H 1080p monitor
Seagate 750gb hdd -> Western Digital 1tb hdd x 2 (In case I play Fallout)
3gb RAM (upgradable to 6gb when I can do more than 1 thing at a time)

Recently Fallout: NV did the honors of helping my 750gb hdd to fail mechanically (not recognized by the BIOS after a NV crash). So I bought a new hdd and reinstalled the Vista OS on a new 1gb hdd to factory defaults via disks purchased from the manufacturer. I purchased a new hdd as driving 3 hours to Best Buy and giving them my whole PC for 2 weeks to simply diagnose and replace the failed hardware was worth less than $120 of a new one in gas and time. This crash wiped everything and took many days of updates for the Vista 64 OS service pack 2. Not to mention security, browser settings, etc.

After reloading the OS, I decided to install this game via disk and steam. Once again set up options and started a new character. Ran into a problem where the the game set to native monitor resolution (1920 x 1080 @ 60hz) can often cause the monitor to fail with a 'Not Optimum Mode' safe mode feature requiring the computer be powered down and the monitor unplugged. I believe it is killing my monitor's internal hardware components (unsolved).

Now I have tried to set it up and have it force a windowed 720p resolution on my 1080p monitor. The save games don't load at all, awesome. I saw the idea to load a previous save and then load my current save, OR load a previous save and continue from there. It appears that all new saves made after the patch will be unable to be loaded, while not being corrupted.

The current temporary solution seems to be to start a new game, push Esc to skip the cutscene, and then when the white light flashes after the load push Esc and load the desired save game. This will apparently bypass the failure to launch protocol now committed to memory, which was apparent to me as I listened to my new hdd's clicks or lack there of (unsolved).

I've had this game for 5 months, and only ever made it as far as halfway through Primm over 4 game restarts due to the bugs and everything. Maybe 10% of my Fallout: New Vegas play has been spent in game, with 90% of it spent looking up what things do/mean and scouring for solutions to bugs and glitches. Life in a post apocalyptic world would not be as difficult as getting this game to run properly. KotOR works, Fallout: NV not so much...

I would love an official patch that did 5 things:
1) allow save games to function in a manner where one can 'save the game' and 'load the game'
2) allow weightless items to not appear in the default ITEM screen on softcoe (scroll through 50+ ammo and medical options all the time, every time to find the cigaratte pack to sell? should at least reward me with a mouse scroll wheel sensitivity unlock option and speed reading achievement),
3) allow the game to run in 1920 x 1080 windowed mode without borders. This will help the system to recover from a F:NV crash without harming the hardware and/or requiring a cold boot (i.e. allow ctrl+shift+esc or alt+tab to end task instead of the ctrl+alt+del to remove the unfunctional program from functioning memory).
4) there is no 4.

Please update! I can't get it done, you gotta be the guy to get it done so I can get it done and not miss another Sunday with the family asking me to make it show the cool fun stuff I'm doing on the PC.

I too am having issues with loading saved games after the recent patch and the odd crash . I have to restart the game ( using windows task manager ) upto 12 times before eventually it will load a saved game - otherwise it seems to hang .
I have no add-ons , mods - The game worked fine until this patch . I only wish I had not checked auto-update within Steam :( . Very annoying . Its a fantastic game but this patch has wrecked the smooth flow of gameplay - cmom techies give us a new patch to fix this :)

System Specs.

Windows 7 Home 64bit
Core I7 - 2600k
8 gig Ram
64gb ssd (os)
125gb ssd (game installs)
Nvidia Gforce GTX460 1mb
